I got my Series 60 back up and running again!

My Racor primary fuel filter has a little push button priming pump on the top of the filter housing.  I cracked the secondary filter and primed until fuel was streaming out.  I then tightened the secondary filter and primed until the button got hard to press.  The engine started the second time I cranked it.  I let the engine run for five to ten minutes and then shut it off.  It started right up again when I tried it again.

Now I have to get the fan belts on again and I can go for a drive.  I pretty much destroyed the secondary filter with my filter wrench so I'll have to have C&J Bus Repair replace it when they do the service work this week.  (Spare I thought I had is wrong number.)

Glad you were paying attention and found that handy button...Not that there's anything really wrong with some of the ideas people put forward about priming. Buuutttt.....Some of it could be questionable...

Especially the pumping air into the fuel tank.... Got a leak? No? You will when the pressure bumps the crud loose.. Personally after all the little foibles and wierd stuff that you have had to deal with on your bus. The very last thing is to apply pressure to stuff that wasn't broke yet..... ::) ::) ::)

I use something different. It's a 12 volt vacuum pump that I got off an old ambulance... It does pressure or vacuum depending on which fitting you hook to.
My NJT MC9 had an a/c fitting already attached to the secondary filter. I cut an old r-12 hose and stuffed the end on the "suck" side of the little pump.... Screwed the fitting onto the filter and turned it on. waited for all the air to purge out and a solid stream come out the exhaust port on the vac pump.

Disconnect the a/c fitting and crank her up... always works... No undue stress on pump seals and other things just sucks the fuel through the system past the very minor seepage that the old gear type fuel pumps all have in them... air will pass through the gaps while fluid will fill them....

For those of you that are feeble and can't figure out where to steal a 12 volt vac pump.... Not to worry...

Remember that totally useless 250 PSI 12-air pump ( cig lighter version ) that wouldn't pump up a nerf ball?
( Well I did use one for a wheelbarrow tire once. )
If you pull all the plastic off them you can get to the intake side of the little compressor.. rig a hose onto that and you have a portable primer... Run till it spits and you are up and running..... 8) 8) :o :o :o :o

Just about any cheapie 12 volt mini-compressor will work if you fiddle with it and can install some fittings on your secondary filter....

Yeah.. I know.. Flame on - Flame off ....

The nice part is you can find them at almost any yard sale for almost free....

No ether explosions, bent rods, burned rings, blown heads or liners or fried starters & Batteries.... I like that..
