Some of you know that I have my RTS for sale so I can buy an Eagle from Don Fairchild. So tonight I get a message from some smart@$$ guy who says "Good luck selling your bus for THAT price! Haven't you seen all the good motor homes that sell for less than $10,000 that need nothing?"

I was pretty surprised. Why do some people feel the need to send a message that has no more purpose than to be a jerk? So I admit... I was a bit of a jerk back... I wrote:

"Yeah, I've seen them, but then most people know the difference in a bus and a motor home and no motor home comes close to a bus. But I wonder why you wrote to me just to be a jerk. Should I now make fun of you for not knowing the difference between a bus and a motor home? Nah, I won't sink to your level."

Of course, I am paraphrasing. I don't remember my exact words but that is the basic point. I just don't understand people. Why be a jerk? And do people really not know the difference between a bus and a motor home?

Jeremy

People here would certainly rate a motorhome much more highly than a bus, simply because there aren't any decent bus conversions around. If you tell someone you are converting a coach (you wouldn't say 'bus', because bus makes it sound even worse) people assume you are talking about either a 'traveller vehicle', or a stock car transporter. I did a quick search to find some photos to illustrate what these terms mean here, but instead I found a couple of websites dedicated to them:

http://www.travellerhomes.co.uk/
http://www.yelloway.co.uk/ (then click on 'Stock Car Transporters' on left menu)

On the other point (emailing sellers to tell them their price is too high etc) - obviously that is out of order, but I have for example occasionally seen things advertised on eBay etc where a statement has been made about an item which I know to be incorrect - what do you do then? You can either email the seller to tell them, in the hope it was a genuine mistake and the seller will appreciate the information rather than think you are a jerk - or you can keep quiet and know that the buyer of that item has probably been misled.

A shameless plug for my business - visit www.magazineexchange.co.uk for back issue magazines - thousands of titles covering cars, motorbikes, aircraft, railways, boats, modelling etc. You'll find lots of interest, although not much covering American buses sadly.

I have on two occasions sent a message questioning either high shipping charges or the price of an item.
On the first I asked why a particular small item had a $10.00 shipping cost?  The lady answered back and said that was a mistake, it should have been $4.00.  I wound up purchasing several of her Greyhound items.
On another the guy had some of the Scenicruiser luggage tags for $10.00 each.  I pointed out that in my opinion if he dropped them some they would probably all sell like hot cakes.  He came back with a smart answer that it didn't cost him much to list them and he didn't care about selling hot cakes, waffles, or any other breakfast item! (I wouldn't purchase anything from him at any price he was such a jerk about it.

Come to think of it...Kyle had bid on a Scenicruiser luggage tagg from someone else...I sent a message asking if they had more, that usually if Kyle bid on something first I wouldn't bid and visa-versa.  They didn't.  Later I got a meesage from them that they found one and they sent it to me free!  Seems her husband and his friend have a similar arrangement concerning car parts.

As far as the guy sending you the message...his comments seemed a bit out of line!

Had the guy written to me and said something like "why do bus shells cost more than some motor homes?" or something similar then it would have been a different story. But he made it obvious that his comments were meant to belittle. I have also on occasion written to sellers but even if something is just blatantly wrong I try to be considerate and not accusatory or belittling. Guess it is just how I was raised.

Oh.. and just to clarify.. I asked Dallas and a couple of others to look over my ad when I placed it and the consensus was that it was a good price. I have had a ton of people write to me wanting to see it and a couple who want to sell their S&S so they could buy it. I still just think the guy was a jerk.

I agree, some people are just jerks and want to start some type of controvercy.  I've gotten some very rediculous emails from people that don't have a clue from time to time, some I let slide but others I respond to and not always in a pleasent way.  Ever now and then you run into a person that desparetly needs to be choked.  I really don't think the S&S public really understand what a bus is all about tho, I've had people ask me what kind of motorhome mine is and I tell them it's a bus and they say it doesn't look like any school bus they've ever seen, so maybe it's just that they don't have a clue. I do have a couple of RVing friends that are coming around tho, one is already on his 4th S&S and he asked me when I'm going to get a new one, I told him I'm not that this one will probably outlive me, he see's it a little differently now and has been actually looking at buses now.

I had a business friend of mine say "why don't you just rent a motorhome when you want then you don't have any of those costs?"  Once again, some people just don't get our insanity and compulsion to make these beasties.  I told him one it was my hobby and two I wouldn't drive a sticks and staples because of safety issues-but that's just me.  Good Luck, TomC

to me people tend to discount and look down on what they don't know or understand. (their loss)

My class A friends thought I was crazy when I bought a bus bit now.

They want a bigger generator......no room (hey skip can you put a bigger one in yours and we can hook up)
They want a bigger water tank.....no room (hey Skip will you set yours up so we can get water if we run out)
They want a bigger engine..........no room
They want an invertor .............no access to wire it correctly.
I show them Buses with solar.........they are just green.

Don't get me wrong they have very nice riggs and if I had one I wouldn't complain (oh wait yes I would)
When they do "get it" it's the start of another bus nut.

And yes some people feel they are intitled to their rude comments. I look at it as it is their problem not mine!

Songman, some people are idiots & are so proud of it that they have to show others by making comments like that. (you see a lot of that on the other bus boards  ;) )

About the words hurting more than sticks & stones - - - I don't understand why . . . .
Why give words that much power?
Why allow someone you don't know to have that much influence on you?
Why don't you have more respect for yourself than to even consider letting words hurt?

I'm way more concerned with the sticks & stones. I've never had words hurt like a well placed stick, stone, hammer, fist, etc.

The only time words can hurt me is when they come from someone I respect & care deeply for. I have given only those people that kind of influence on my well being.

What is it called when you buy something you don't want with money you don't have to impress someone you don't know/like?

One thing we should all keep in mind here...

If all the Idjits that own Stick built boxes on tires decided to grow a bit of brain matter and get a bus instead, many of us could'nt afford a bus conversion. Prices would skyrocket out of sight. State bureaus would decide that there is even more tax money to be made, small children would be deprived of a stable home life because mom and dad spent the grocery money on a new set of "Private Coach" signs, leaving them to fend for themselves by offering to wash the neighbors RV in exchange for enough money for a baloney sammich....

The ramifications are mind boggling in the extent to which society could fall!

SM, I hope the prices go up for you while the bus is for sale, and go down when I'm looking for my next one!
