This past weekend we stayed at a nice little RV campground in east-central North Carolina.  My question is, would anyone be interested in having a weekend rally out here?  The place we stayed at is called Maxwell Mill Lake Park.  It presently has five fifty amp slots and several 30 amp.  Their amenities include a beautiful swimming pool, cable TV, shoreline parking, a good crappie, brim, and bass lake, free use of boats(bring your own electric motor), a bathhouse, 40' X 80' picnic shelter, and approximately twelve spots for large rigs.  They are working on adding additional large spots as I write this.  The fee is $30.00 a night for full hookups, and they do take reservations.  The park is located about twenty miles off I40, and thirty-five miles east of I95, forty-five miles northwest of Wilmington, sixty miles southeast of Raleigh, and about ninety miles south of the Virginia border on I95 in Duplin County, NC.  I DO NOT have a connection with this park, personal or professional.  It's just a very nice area, with a very laid-back attitude, and convenient to someone who wants to get away for the weekend.

I'm very willing to set something up if anyone is interested.  Please let me have some dates on this board , or email me if you are interested.  Thanks!

Hi Darrell,

I'm interested in attending - the location is close to perfect for us and the campground sounds nice.  I'm somewhat open as to dates and would like to hear when others would be able to attend.

Thanks Dave.  Lets see how many other eastern southerners are interested....... :)

Possibly May around mothers day,  Usually have reunions around then.

Seems i had some Scuppernog Wine from there many moons ago.(early 80's)

Do you live there?
It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. ;)

Golly, I was thinking....'it's about an 8 hour drive from home over to Wilmington!'....and then John had to mention Scuppernong Wine!  I used to stop in Belhaven twice a year and my friend there always had more than a years' supply laid away.  Mmmmm...memories.

Let's see how this develops and we'll re-visit it in the spring.

I have been to that campground & it is very nice. Do the Canadian folks still own it?

Hi Darrell,
I'd be interested too.   May I suggest the weekend before, or after, Mother's Day?  A good many folk are not going to be available for Mother's Day weekend.  ME for one....  :(  Unless ya'll all want to meet at Denton, NC?  That's the weekend for Doyle Lawson's Family Style Bluegrass Festival. "Family Style" my @$$!   I'll be there for Mother's Day.
The week before was the weekend that Dallas scheduled T'Ville.  The weekend after MD or any other weekend in May would work.
The location is fine with me.  Sounds nice.
Darrell, come on over to Palmetto Cove on Oct 12th and we can toss the idea around in person! ;)
Cheers, JR

Hello All, thanks for the responses!

Duplin county is known for it's wine!  There are quite a few wineries in the area.  The May time frame sounds great!  The area is usually in full bloom by then, and the fishing is great.  I'll check with the owner's to make sure they will have openings at that time.

How about a mid-winter gathering?  This past January's daytime temps were in the seventies the entire month.... And thinking about those folks with cabin fever coming on, it might be a good break to have a little get together about then???  What do you think?

The folks that used to own the park sold it to the present owners about a year and a half ago.  They are formerly from the New Jersey area.

NC Bob, if your'e in the Charlotte area, it's about a five hour ride from the Queen City.

JR, I'll be in Carlisle, PA for my annual car parts hunt the same weekend as Palmetto Cove.  I haven't missed that show in twelve years.  And this will be the first time with the MCI, so we are looking forward to it even more this year.

Slow Rider

Darrell,

In theory I will have my bus by then :)  It would make a nice run from northern Virginia.  Keep me informed,

I could be available depending on the final date.  It would be a nice cross country drive from Morehead City.

Hi Darrell,
We'll miss ya'll at Palmetto!
Not sure about the January camp date.  As you say, last year it was rather warm...but it ain't typically.   It could be done with a short term notice based on nice weather?
I'm not much of a cold weather camper.  Once the bus is winterized, It will likely stay that way for 4 months.
We won't be doing Arcadia this year.  T has already made plans for NYE.
If enough people are interested in  a Jan gig, we'll sure consider joining the fracas!   Definitely would do a May..or any warm season thing.   We were just down in your 'hood at a place called Laurel Lakes Campground.  Gene Lewis talked with the owners of that campground and she was happy to host a bus get-together.
Laurel Lakes is definitely no an "upscale" campground.  It ain't bad, just not upscale.
We'll be back at Laurel Lakes next July 4th.  They had a major fireworks show on the 4th.  Someone spent some bucks on the show.  Had a big crowd for it too.

Bob,
We went to a winery near Lake Placid, Fl a couple weeks ago for their annual scuppernong grape foot stomp and Bluegrass music. I think the best wine we ever had was a bottle of Scuppnong Blush from Duplin Winery that we found at a WalMart in Greeneville, SC.  Wish they sold it down here.  Jack

A week (or two) before Mother's Day sounds good.  The week after is getting close to Memorial Day.  I'd possibly be interested in an impromptu Jan. get-together... as long as it's not too cold.  I guess we'll have to play that by ear.  Let's keep working at it and I'm sure we can come up with something.

Sounds like a plan to me!  The weather (and T's work schedule) is the only limiting factor in January.
I'm in favor of a little "Global Warming"...then I won't have to move further South to escape the cold!

Darrell, It's a 4 hour ride from here to Charlotte.  We're so far west in NC they're thinking of exporting us to TN!  In fact Franklin is 70 miles west of Asheville and everyone knows there nothing west of Charlotte! ;)

That is, except for those of us who live over here......
