there is a bus  on ebay right now,its a 1981 mci-9 that i was looking at, and i was just wondering about the paint job...red/white and blue on the sides and roof of the bus...was that grayhounds colors????

not hound paint scheme and if the description is correct It was never a hound as Greyhound was not selling off MC-9's in 83

by only issue would be the 6v92T...which was not the engine that bus was delivered with

Not trying to start a war here...but...is that a true statement about lack of service on the older 'dogs'?  I was under the impression that the service was GREAT!

The late 50's was the begining of the end for good Greyhound maint.......and certainly shitty once the MC-9's dominated the fleet.

keep in mind also.....Greyhound sells off thier buses somewhere after the accumulate 2 million miles.

In contrast the 4104 I have sold recently had somewhere in the area of 3 million miles, but it was rebuilt from the ground up when we bought it.

Today the issue is crappy drivers, crappy maint, and the dreggs of society getting who knows what type of vermin in the bus.

in the 80's most Greyhounds were roach infested

And by the way, when I asked about grayhounds someone on this board (I believe) politely informed me it was grEyhould. I'm trying to do the same.

In Theory, theory and practice are the same.
In Practice, they aren't.

I bought a 1986 ex Greyhound out of ABC in LA. I had a 1973MC-7 before for 11 years that I bought from a charter co.
The 1986 102-A3  I bought was in great shape, the engine was just replaced, 49000 miles, new Fuel Pro fuel system installed, new batteries. It was based in LA so I couldn't find any corrosion any where. There was one ex Greyhound at ABC with a Zero mileage engine, but I liked the condition of body better on the one I bought. I think that Greyhound maintained the bus better than some of the smaller charter co. They don't hesitate  to replace something that needs replacing. They even kept records on the tire pressure.
