Hello all,

I have a 45 foot MCI in Rockford IL that I regretably need to tow down to Houston.  Anyone have any contacts in or near either city that they trust and are hopefully reasonably priced?

Thanks

My limited experience in towing buses has resulted in ~$4 per loaded mile or ~$150 per hour the truck is away from the shop. Then there is the issue of finding a towing service willing to cross that many states (- I don't know why that was a problem, but I do know several declined to move my last bus due to the number of states involved.)

For a point of reference, I just had a 40' x 10'-8" (airbags down) tall scenicruiser hauled on a landoll from Indiana to South Carolina. The trip was just over 600 miles one way & cost nearly ~$2600. There was no damage to the bus as a result of the trip.  ;D  And I didn't have to worry about the tires or brakes or suspension.

What is the height of the bus? I'm guessing that at 45' it will be over 11' tall which will mean over height permits (more $$) if you use a trailer to move it. Another option, if will it roll, is to have it towed on the hook (I've heard of wreckers that pick up by the axle (& they remove the front wheels to allow for a lower towing height).

What requires it to be towed? That tow bill will go a long way towards most repairs.

I think that if your schedule is flexible and you can wait until they can get another load from your drop point, you might be able to negotiate a better price.

Yes, that would have cut my tow bill in half! But after 3 months & countless canceled back hauls, I ran out of time & had to get 'er out of there. The type trailer required isn't exactly commonplace  :(
