Price of Cruise Air A/C ($$$$$)

I have three Coleman 13,500btu roof tops with standard hang down diffusers that work very well.  In 13 years of having them, have never done anything except clean the filters and inspect for dirt to them.  The only complaint is that they only have a 2 speed fan-like medium and high.  So night time use is still a bit noisy-although we don't have to use it very often at night.  I was thinking about setting up a Cruise Air split system for a quiet night time A/C.  What I was going to do was to mount the 14,000btu condenser/compressor unit under the floor of the bath then have two 7,000btu evaporators-one in the back bedroom and the other mounted in between the sofa and dinette in front.  I called the only dealer in the US in Virginia that handles the air cooled Cruise Air units (most are water cooled for boat use).  What a shocker at the prices of these units- $1,600.00 for the condenser/compressor unit; $800.00 ea for the evaporators-so two would be another $1,600.00; $180.00 for the thermostat; another $200.00 or so for the freon lines; another $200 or so for the flex ducts and vent grills; and add in $150.00 for shipping.  That's very close to $4,000.00 for the air conditioner!  If it comes to it, I'll replace my middle A/C with a DuoTherm Penquin at about $700.00.  Or as I told my wife, cotton in the ears is real cheap!  Good Luck, TomC

mine were over 2000.00 each 10 years ago but i bought mine from a dealer in Seabrook TX i will find the # for you if you want it or maybe Nick can help you with a better price.I love mine but would like to have the touch pad controls.Never had a problem or added any freon in 10 years.Tom ,Northwest RV surplus has these units sometimes but may not be the type evaporator you want

Did Fred give you priceing on the Tundra line also?  The systems are close to the Cruisair setups.

Tundra/Dometic splits are in the $16-1,900 range-less than half of the Cruise Air.  I would be more inclined to use the Tundra since it is designed for big rig truck use-can't get much more rugged than that!  Good Luck, TomC

Why don't you split a roof top unit. I split two for my central air. It's been working great since 1988. I also have a 5000 btu house unit split for the bedroom and a 7000 btu house unit split for the drivers area. We use the 5000 at night with the fan running all the time and the comp. off & on with the thermostat. The cost isn't much. I think Wally has them for about $100. I've been happy with my setup for years with no problems.
