Does anyone have a good idea of how much a radiator recore should cost?  My radiator is I am guessing is about 24" wide and 30" tall.

I've seen a number of folks here posting that they paid as much as $2700 for a radiator recore and many over $2,000.  JD over at C&J Bus Repair thought it might be around $1000 to get my radiator recored and that seems way low from my reading here.  I'm wondering if JD is out of touch with reality on radiator recore prices with metal prices through the roof.

There was a guy in FL that posted on one of the yahoo scenicruiser sites that he could get a new technology recore for a scenicruiser for $750 (Radiator only, & a friend actually bought one at that price to replace the one the scrap thieves stole :'(). So $1000 sounds fair, different shops have different overhead. . . . Be sure to ask enough questions to ensure both parties know what's expected before you place the order.

Good luck

Anybody have a radiator recored this year since metal prices have soared?

I really wish I knew a place that manufactures radiators or cores for the Dina.  MCI no longer sells cores and will only do a complete assembly for $2,500.  Labor and overhead in Minneapolis is pretty expensive so I would expect prices to be somewhat higher than a lower cost area.

I'm still not sure if I need a radiator or not.  I think I'll have a pretty good idea in a day or two after I do some driving up the few steep grades we have locally.

Belfert, that size in a 6 0r 7 core should cost you about 800 to a 1000 Eagles have a lot larger core and the 60S are easy to cool

Did you use an infrared thermoenter to diagnose and it is for sure the radiator?

I have replaced or had replaced everything expect the water pump, electric clutch and radiator.  The Detroit dealer said my water pump was good.

I'm going to take the bus for a drive this evening and see if it overheats.  If it still does I guess I need to get an infrared thermometer from Harbor Freight to see if the radiator is working.

Unfortunately, I called these guys a while back and they had never heard of a Dina bus.

Have you pressure washed you radiator lately? A lot of the time that's all it takes .... I do mine every 2 months and the gen rad every month.

Brian, I hate to be responsible for you spending more $ on another tool.  But I will say that I have found the infrared thermometer to be an invaluable tool I use all the time for many things. And if by a small chance it is someting other than your radiator, it will show up right away.

I had my radiator upgraded from a 5 row straight fin to a 6 row serpentine core for $2200.00.  Just cleaning should be considerably less.  Good Luck, TomC

I think I can afford a whole $20 for an infrared thermometer from Harbor Freight, especially instead of spending a bunch of time and money pulling out a perfectly good radiator.  Of course, maybe the Harbor Freight thermometer is junk.

Brian;

Call Sierra Tech in Tulsa OK at 800-733-9797 see what they can do.

My radiator is behind my charge air cooler.  I am assuming C&J Bus Repair would have cleaned the radiator if necessary after they pulled the CAC for repair, especially with my overheating complaints.  I can't see washing the radiator from the back doing much good with the CAC in front, but maybe it would.  I'll check the CAC for dirt, but it is probably still pretty clean after being cleaned and repaired last year.

Don, Sierra Technologies appears to do only charge air coolers unless the website is out of date.
