2 or 4 stroke. what is the difference?

okay Guys, from dummy to educated: what is the basic difference in a 4 stroke diesel and a 2 stroke diesel?  The 6v92tA  is a 2 stroke right? Thanks Tomas

The Detroit 71 and 92 Series are two stroke...they fire every time the piston is at the top.  The Detroit 40 and 50 series and the Cummins and Cat engines are 4 stroke cycle just like your car.

Mostly it boils down to what's in the bus when you buy it. Some of the guys repower but since the engineers who designed these things know a little more than me I just leave things alone and settle for what's been proven.  Never was a trail blazer...but too...I sure love the sound and dependability of the 71's.

The 4 strokes tend to put out a wider torque band, allowing for taller gearing, which is largely responsible for the increased fuel mileage.

Yes, the 6V92TA is a two stroke engine.  6 Cylinder, V configuration, 92 cubic inches per cylinder, wet sleeve, turbo charged with an air charge cooler on it.  Very reliable, and many many are still on the road.
