Cj-4 oil contains less than 1% ash now, look at http:www.detroitdiesel.com/epa07updates/index.asp looks like the modern world is coming around to the two stroke theory

Hey that's great! But the ash content is not the only reason to use STAIGHT 40W! The multi-viscosity oils break down too much and allow the tops of the 2 stroke pistons to overheat! Which in turn allows the pistons to burn a hole in them, crack or score the liners! FWIW!

CJ-4 is limited to a maximum 1% sulfated ash, but on the API website, the service description for CJ-4 starts with "For high-speed, four-stroke engines ... "  On the other hand the service description for CF-2 reads "For severe duty, two-stroke-cycle engines."

highteckredneck that will probably change the oil companies are going to love this they can double the price to us by taking a additive out

We'll see.  But as BK stated, there is more to the oil selection for 2 strokes than just the sulfated ash content.

I figured out the problems in the link posted by bus05eagle:
