I need a little help with matching chassis compressor ???, my original is a carrier M# 5F30B634 of which I am familiar with and our local carrier dist. is good parts source ,but with that said I have acquired another compressor M#05GC137B10 of which seems to be approx. the same BTU. (judging from the evap.& condenser size ) Both are carrier compressors, the 5F...style has no elect. clutch and unloads cycl. as needed, the05G... with the clutch also has unloaders with the addition of the clutch which will stop the operation of the crankshaft and related parts( this may help my fuel economy if I can make the transition
or if it is worth all the trouble ) I know other remove the belts in the winter  but this makes me a little uneasy because of the possibility of slugging the compressor. In short(little late for that...SORRY  ::)) I have not been able to com up with any specs. or break down of the 05G style compressor!!
  Thanks in advance

PS my existing system is working fine an I converted it over to R134a

Dwayne,
I ain't no reefer mechanic.
I have a couple of reefer trailers with the clutch feature. They are wired to use the clutch as a safety switch. If the hi side goes over pressure or the low side goes to low, the engine will disconnect from the compressor. My units will not reconnect until they are manually turned off and restarted.
Those compressors have been used extensively in trucking so there is no shortage of parts or info. At one time I had 6 of those units and have the shop manual somewhere, if I can find it. A Carrier dealer can get you a manual or let you look at all their books.

Our local carrier rep. doesn't seem to have any books on these compressors,I will try again Monday  ( the problem may be they geared for comfort cooling and not for the motion industry) if I don't have any success  Is there a possibility of maybe getting a copy of yours? (I don't expect it for free!!)
Thanks
Dwayne

Dwayne,

Check here: http://www.transportaircon.carrier.com/details/0,2806,CLI1_DIV8_ETI10093,00.html?SMSESSION=NO

Your manual is probably in there somewhere.

Edit: If you'll send me your email address I have the workshop manual for the O5G twin port and the 05G bus  compressor in PDF. I can send it to you

tekebird

IIRC, the 05g is the newer and more efficient compressor it should have oval heads were the 30 has round heads

 Tekebird
Your rite the 5F is a three cyclender (round head design), AND THE 5G uses what looks to be the same as the o6D head & valve plate design.
  Thanks for the Info
