Hi All,

I'm working my way through my corroded grounds, rebuilding my ground straps where needed (everyone should do this). Do anyone know where the instrument cluster grounds to? Is it several grounds, or a common ground point? I would hope it grounded to the frame, but I doubt it does.

The whole dash underneath is metal, so it's all fair game in the minds of those who worked on it before your ownership.

Turn the battery off, lots of bare stuff to contact behind there, once the screws are out. Side switch panel in particular almost impossible to open/close without sparking something.

happy coaching!

Is there a common ground color for the instruments? If it were it might be brown or black. My plan is it join the grounds together and form a 6 or 8 gauge ground and tap that to the frame.

Checking the manual, black to the cluster is '12v power source' meaning positive??

Ground wire to panel with fuses, wire connection studs, relays, etc, left side of driver's GMC. Connect to ground source there. Wiring diagram is helpful, but a 24 volt test light.(Harbor Freight has a nice 3 pack- 12 volt, 24 volt, and a continuity tester. Very reasonble)
