We get lots of service trucks for sale here from CA because of the 200,000 mile limit on the smaller older diesel engines in those trucks like GMC,Chevy,Dodge and Fords, the small guys are forced into buying bigger trucks the 1 tons don't cut it the way CARB is set up

You are not going to completely boycott California it is the breadbasket for the US,with out Ca grocery stores shelfs would be empty ,Newsome may be working on that though
Clifford I hauled freight in and out of California for years (point taken) my boycott is just me not going to California thinking back I always remembered going into California it wasn't like just crossing another state line it was like crossing the border into a different country where trucks were hated by the California D.O.T you had to be at the top of your game and up to date with your equipmemt or they would nail your @$# to the wall in my opinion it's not worth the worry and added expense to keep compliant.
Build back better not working we need to make American great again. Lets go Brandon!

I asked a trucker at the truck wash near me why so many trucks wash before entering CA and he told me CA was tough on nasty trucks, that couldn't be right or is it true

It's true. You always wanted to get the truck washed (especially under carriage any oil or grease residue soot from the exhaust on your trailer) do as much as possible to not draw attention to yourself new or old trucks didn't matter. It was a cat and mouse game with them. You drove miles out of the way or waited hours for the coop to close to avoid contact with the D.O.T and it wasn't because we had junky unsafe equipment any commercial equipment is fair game to them. Truly the worst of the worst.

Boating is big in this area for people from CA,lot of storage around here they bring their boats here and rent storage because of the boat inspections going back into CA where they live

Saw a lot of boat inspection stops on our AK trip. Also encouraging power washing. Guess it from some kind of sea creatures getting into great lakes or elsewhere.

I think everyone living in or going to California is under scrutiny of some kind it's the next best thing to a communist country. I also think for some Californians it's the frog in a pot of water thing they don't notices it like outsiders do. Can't imagine operating a 2 stroke Detroit in that "state".

I've never been totally on board with invasive species laws &/or regulations unless of coarse it was a space ship coming in from outer space. Planet earth has had species migration relocation since the beginning of time. Humans being the top of the food chain would like to keep it from happening or slow down migrations/relocations for our own convienence while we as humans are raping the planet in so many other ways at the same time at alarming rates. Just MO.

Restrictions on firewood crossing state lines. Bug in evergreens is killing an incredible number of trees. They just suddenly turn brown-dead. In town out of town. 10 in a landscape, 5 or 6 killed. Large dead patches in forests.
There were some benefits to DDT years ago.

Pine beetles infest the forest here in the west is what kills the trees, not carrying firewood across state lines is not going to stop a air born insect, it never was a problem till some tree huger group stop the removing of downed trees in the forests lol notice the price of those tiny bundles of wood now, it is a money maker for camp hosts now.FWIW a CA state park was the 1st time I ran into no firewood from another state

So, would it be safest to enter California on a bicycle or would it be prudent to do power washing prior? In California's defense (I never thought I would ever say that) they do all this to prevent pests and diseases from affecting the citrus and vegetable crops. Quarantines are not always totally effective, but they slow the natural spread of diseases. Australia and California are the most vigilant places about this.

I don't know maybe disinfect the bike before entry of course every part of that bike probably causes cancer in California maybe just walk in disease free.

gee 2023 starts off with a bang or is that a bash on the west coast. First time on the board where I feel the pain of the haters. LOL You're all just jealous not being here, I understand.

Things have to be different here. I'm not defending 80% that is BS but there are unique needs here that other states and countries just don't have to deal with.
Much of the state has fireplace buring restrictions. It is incredibly annoying but it's easy to understand when you live in a bowl with millions of people buring firewood on nights with heavy inversion. Nobody wants to choke on smoke, You go outside and swear it is dense fog but it wood smoke.

Then the checkpoints on fruit, veg, all sorts of stuf that can harbor pests that destroy crops and wreck the ag businesses.
Same thing with auto smog regs. Just like fireplace burning. With just so many cars in conmpacted areas, there is no choice but to insist on strict pollution controls.

Unless you have lived in mega metro areas with massive numbers of people. I just looked this up as I did not know but just the SF Bay Area has as many people as 15 entire states. It's hard to image driving for two straight hours and never getting out of the neverending mass of building and people and cars. Or getting in hours long traffic jams and thousands of cars spewing pollution not going anywhere. Even podunk Sacramento has more people and cars than four states.

Life is just different and presents problems many folks never experience or have to deal with. Again, not defending the state - the 20% I dislike is enough to make me want to hang myself every Sunday. well, why not just move away? Because it is still the best state overall to live in.
