It's leaking from the rear axle just curious of what all I should get before starting parts and any special tools ect.

convert to grease. End the leaking and coating brake drum and shoes. Luke at US Coach in New Jersey can get what you need.

When you change over you create another maintenance that needs attention every 30,000 miles to deal with.buy a good seal and wear ring replace both and be done MCI had it right,buy good a seal not a cheap seal the Scottseal will cost you about 60 bucks

30,000 miles? How many do that anymore without deep pockets. Use a synthetic semi fluid grease. ( Mobil has a good one) and go way beyond 30k. On your new jobs, yeah, go with oil, but if you have to clean up the mess a couple of times with soaked lining and drums, Oil lubed rear axle bearings looses some of it's luster.

MCI use a 3 piece seal that rotates inside the housing like a bearing they don't give many problems and the only time they get changed is when you replace drums and shoes,only trouble I have with one is when people by a cheap seal   lol replacing a axle spindle takes the joy from grease too

Packed properly, RARE to happen. Oil seal failure? hundreds of times more common. But do whatever makes you comfortable.

must be why so many reports of rear seal leaks.😏 I'll limit my preference to 90's and earlier GMC and MCI.

Apparently I got a special one, my 91 Neoplan has grease packed bearings on the drive axle. Inter and outer seals.
