Much as I hate to post this, I just don't seem to be able to pick up the thread. I had this problem before and it was something that I was overlooking, which once addressed took care of it. Apparently I need to paste up a notice in some prominent location. Anyway I have to ask again.

'96 102DL3 Startup is just fine but after running maybe half a minute it shuts down. Who can tell me what I'm overlooking?

Kinda a little embarrassing really. I know it's something simple.

Thanks,
Jim

Hmmm... don't think that was it the last time this happened.

Seems likely. When I hit the manual pump switch after a few seconds it gurgled. Need to go get more antifreeze.

Hey, I heard micropores from cavitation was an issue with these engines. Something about using the right antifreeze? Any recommendations?

I don't use any brand except the Power Cool for Detroit Diesels ,you are not dealing with the old 2 stroke engine with the 60 series

First off, why did the coolant drop? Better fix that first, or revisit the same issue again down the road.

True enough, I'll try to have a look around today and see if anything shows up. It's probably been sitting more than is good for it and may stop loosing coolant once it is being run a bit more often, but now that I have the jacks working properly it'll be much easier to move it around a bit. The leak isn't an obvious one.

I've not noticed that Power Cool antifreeze anywhere around here, I'd guess they sell it in the truck stops?

I have had the same issue in the past with coolant loss over time. Mine has always ended up being seepage from the silicone hoses. They do like to leak when the temperature changes. Check your hoses.
Some are called, some are sent, some just got up and went.

The pumps on the Ispar and Webasto plumbed to the engine seem to always drip on the DL3

You get the Powercool coolant at the Detroit dealer.

That should be easier to find. Any easy way to know which ones are OK to use?

I took a look around yesterday and realigned the engine access doors in the process. Got attacked by a big crowbar... but hey all the doors open and close nicely now at least. Didn't see any indications of drippage or leakage but I'll take another look today and maybe tighten the clamps.

There is a new Freuhauf dealer across the freeway, do they sell DD?
