Prices are still fair here in Missouri and we get rain a few times since we have been here. Its hard rain but short. Lots of rivers and lakes especially in the Ozarks.  We don't own anything anymore except the Jeep and the Bus and probably won't again in our life time but also don't want to. We owned a lot of STUFF and realized it was keeping us from living a life we really wanted which was enjoying traveling meeting new people, and just seeing the country where ever we want to be.
We helped a lot of people in our lives and now we are helping us Ha. and enjoying every minute of it. :^

There is lots of doom and gloom and towns that will never be the same. Downright depressing if we think about it too hard, or see it in person like Chessie. Makes ya sick. Wife Rita is a busy Realtor here in the N Ga mountains. We keep cautioning friends that say they are done with the lake thing, about selling. They are getting way too much money for these little lake houses (some bigger) but we keep saying to friends "Know where you are going and check prices there before you sell here". It is insane seemingly everywhere.
For FUN, we have been taking the bus on 1 or 2 hour trips just to run it. Afraid Covid will pull the kids back out of school (they just closed the elementary here due to Covid) which will jam the campgrounds again. Tuesday, however, we plan a big adventure! Two hour drive to the nearest COSTCO! Most of our neighbors are 70-80 years old. We took a list from 5 of them. All afraid of the Covid resurgence. So were off to COSTCO to fill the belly bays with bails of paper towels, napkins, coolers full of meat, dog food, all sorts of supplies, probably 50 pounds of depends (they are old) and our twice a year supplies we get in bulk. Almost as fun as cruising into Yellowstone! Not really, but I get to run the bus....
Hang in there kids. Find something fun to do, maybe helping others, and run your bus!

We had our place here in Wisconsin listed for a silly crazy price thinking that if someone wrote us a silly crazy check we'd take it.

Then we looked around at where we could go after, and realized that it would require us writing a silly crazy check as well. Not ready to go full time in the bus, so we'd need another place.

Not talking about luxury houses or resort/destination locations either, just mundane bedroom communities in SE Wisconsin.

Real estate has gone silly crazy.

I kind of like Dave5Cs set up. Rita's accountant told her if she sells any more houses this year, 80% of it will have to go to Biden. Makes me want to hang it up, sell the house, fire up the bus and......  Almost forgot. Damn Covid. The west is on fire. A Hurricane is headed for Long Island. Locusts? Are the locusts coming???

With the principal 40 year FL ponderosa, no overhead, no car payments, no mortgage payments living is good BUT living got a lot better in 2016 when we nailed the 1-1/2A lot in Tok AK - why? Because there is no real estate taxes, no incorporated township, no building, zoning, nor code enforcement. We actually thought we died & went to heaven. Paid cash & NO Overhead. Soon it will be 6 months a year up there!

Dan,
I'm saving your post and will dust it off after a couple of seasons of you folks doing the split living.  Doing the round trip at least once a year likely means going by air. What airports are involved on the Alaska side?

One of the main considerations with us is keeping the homestead maintained while away and costs associated with the upkeep.

Fairbanks 4 hrs to the North then a $75 shuttle into Tok.

Northway is a stone's throw from Tok! About 45mi. or halfway between Tok & the Yukon border.
We were talking major NS route. Heck Tok's airport is larger than Northway's if puddle jumping is in the picture... Tok is strategic for interior AK in way of airlifting for fire, medical, etc. Also a hub for Hwy patrol, sheriff, fire, etc. As far as convenience Tok's better that our FL ponderosa for store runs...just a lot more expensive!

" Puddle jumping" is a way of life in AK,,I flew float planes out of Anchor town delivering building supplies to surrounding lakes to folks who were building cabins and such..  I also worked for a co. that recovered wrecked aircraft out of the outback and into Anchorage for repair,, those day's are gone..  Today an insurance company will just pay off and go back and raise premiums..>>>Dan

Tok is a cool place. Used to do my Dall Sheep hunting out of there. Alaska also has no income tax! Not sure how many months you have to be there to claim residency. You get no income tax, and, the Alaska Dividend check once a year. Good for you!

We have friends that are selling out in Ketchikan and moving to AZ, Tom and Doreen Caffery because of Tom's health, it is hard to believe Ketchikan with 8000 people is the 5th largest city in Alaska

I don't think you can get the oil dividend check if you were not a resident from the beginning now, those checks don't amount to much now Tom told me

When we lived there (15 years) , it was based on the price of a barrel of oil. Some years it was $300, and a few years, me thinks Jimmy Carter gas "crisis", it was close to a thousand. Not a reason to move there. You'd spend it on cost of heating your house in about two months, but it was fun while it lasted.

Need a happy thought? I fueled my bus yesterday. Smiled as I pulled away, right past that DEF pump.....  These days, you have to smile at the little things....
