Same is true here in Central Florida. We buy diesel locally in our boondocks for lots cheaper than a discount card can get close to near the interstates or even in town...

I rarely stop at the major truck stops these days as it is usually less expensive to get fuel elsewhere.  I use the Gasbuddy app on my phone.

There are lots of ways to skin this cat, so everyone should use what they can get the best price with.

Without a doubt though, the TSD program has often been the best discount for me, even checking miles around using other methods like Gas Buddy. If you stick to the brands they have the best discount with, it's hard to beat the TSD prices.

I guess it  is what part of the country you live ,Loves .Petrol and F/J Pilot around here are posted $3.39 for 20% bio fuel and $3.53 for 100% fuel I can buy the premium 100 % diesel here locally for $2.66 or $2.62  at 2 places, that is $.87 per gal cheaper no way can TSD save you that much all our local stations are around  $2.80 to $2.85 a gal

I just used my TDS card today and the posted price was 2.79.  I don't know what the net was because I haven't checked yet BUT at 2.79 and being able to pay at the pump (if you want to fill up you have to go inside twice) saved time.

YMMV

Is that before the 65 cents per gallon transaction fee plus percent of discount of 3 to 5 cents?

There is one single transaction fee of $0.65 charged by some stations, not by TSD. It is not a per gallon transaction fee.

So if the TSD card saves you $50 off the pump price, you pay TSD $5 for their cut, and another $0.65 transaction fee (only at the stations that charge the transaction fee).

That's still a substantial savings.

Not sure why the TSD program is controversial at all - if their price is the best in an area then use it. If there are cheaper options then use those.

It's not like we buy 200 gals of fuel a day for 365 days a year I buy fuel when I need it,I avoid truck stops though they are nasty which does not work with white carpet. I am in no rush the small pumps work for me.You have to get real though truck stop posted prices are way over inflated for the bio diesel they sell which I avoid if all possible. I watch the fuel trucks deliver fuel to the Sprit Mountain Casino here and see F/j  Pilot trucks delivering fuel and the Indians posted price is almost a buck difference in the posted price at F/J cash or credit no price increase .They all pay the same price for fuel at the gate pumping fees and delivery are what changes lol it  is called marketing in today world  or greed

I understand, but get towards the Midwest or the East and options for quiet, cheap, clean mom & pop fuel stops gets very slim. When I need fuel, I'm often not in a familiar area and really not interested in driving miles to save a few more cents. If I can get into a major truck stop, fuel up & leave, all from the pump and without having to go inside, and at a reasonable price that's my choice.

More important for me than trying to save 5 or 10 cents a gallon by driving a few more miles is saving 20 cents or more by buying fuel before entering a high-tax state like Pennsylvania.

I also noticed in Arizona while I was pumping fuel at smaller station that there is sticker on the pump that you can be fined if you have more than two axles...

Of course you could lift the tag and argue that it's not an axle...
