However, statistics related to weather reporting are statistics. Numbers are numbers. Math is math. You can make of it what you want, but it doesn't change the statistics, the numbers, or the math.

But selecting raw data and defining a statistic is where the lies are. You can tell any story you want using numbers. It's all in how objective, representative, academically and professionally accepted, and meaningful they really are.

I suppose this is where choosing a reliable interpreter of the data becomes important. True that raw data can be interpreted in various ways or attributed to various causes. Some parts of the data set are more difficult to interpret, others not so much.

Regardless of what causation one chooses to connect to particular aspects of the data, the specific data itself (i.e. temperature measurements) should be incontrovertible.

Theories posited trying to explain the data have certainly evolved over the years, but the data itself is still the data. We've been measuring ambient temperature with reliable accuracy for quite some time now.

It certainly does change. Weather patterns and climate have changed over time. It's possible in modern times to directly track the changes, and for historical (pre-temperature measurement) the information is obtained from other evidence.

Seems like the real controversy is not whether or not climate changes, it's whether or not life on the planet has any bearing on these changes.

I can remember growing up in Houston we would ice skate on the ponds when Houston grew with people and more housing, with more concrete hiways that went away

Yep in the 50's we would get snow in Houston too !!! and plenty of ice when what people would call a blue northern cold front temps would drop way below freezing in 2 hours from 70*to the teens, my grand daughter in Houston says they are forecast for freezing rain and snow in few days.I have seen a lot of teens and down to 10* before but never saw the 5* grand dad will tell ne about

My lovely 70 year old spouse just confirmed your weather update and History. She was born and raised up there in the 50's. Said it got cold at times. We are 230 miles northwest of there now. Kingsland Tx.

When I was a lad we had to walk through 20 ft snowdrifts for 5 miles all uphill both ways every day for school. Even in the summer.

Is it a dinosaur level event, nope but not something we thought would happen 20-30 years ago. Problem is that it just creeps up on us.
