My husband is calling me from his cell phone. He does not have any internet service so I'm hoping someone could call him with some help.

He is in Hershey Nebraska, and he is driving a 1968 Prevost the engine is a Detroit 8v71 geer driven air comprssor. He thinks it could be the air govener, but he does not know where it is on the bus. He stopped for fuel and it wouldn't bring the air back up. Or maybe a bad air compressor.

Please call him on his cell phone at
503-842-0155 or call his friends cell phone if you can't get through 503-801-2097

Hay guy's,

Just spoke with Mark, "CoolBus" Real nice guy...

Mark has no air, he thinks the govener is not kicking in. He just filled up and now the compressor wont air up.

Maybe one of us can lead him to a fix.

I wish I could help. I am in Vancouver WA right now. I had the same problem, lost the air compressor. The govenor is on the side of the compressor. On mine the key on the gear was bad. I was fortunate that a fellow busnut helped me, as they are hard to find quickly.
I Hope you can find some help, I know the feeling of being stuck somewhere. I'm jsut trying to bump this post up to the top.

Happy Trails,

Paul

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a good Reisling in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming:  WOO HOO, what a ride

I just called Mark,

He thanks the members that called him!

He is now waiting for roadside assistance to come and check out the govenor...

Hopefully that is what it is, being the cheaper of the two.

Hey everybody, THANKS alot for all the help, it makes something like this much easier to deal with...

Anyway, I had the bus trailered to a truck repair shop in North Platte, Nebraska.
The problem has not yet been determined, but their Detroit mechanic thinks it may be the fiber drive gear, based on how it worked perfect and then stopped all at once.

Of course there is still the possibility that it is the compressor itself. (PLEASE don't let it be the compressor!) According to the mechanic, the compressor is a rare style, mounted flat, not at 45 deg. like he has seen before.

In the event he is not able to locate the correct parts, I was hoping someone here would be able to help w/ a parts source that isn't too far away. (North Platte, Nbebraska)

I would like to hear back by phone, if possible, as I am a ways away from the bus right now at the county library. If you are aware  of a parts source. Please call me on my cell @ 503 842 0155

I am going to post this on both boards, hope nobody minds if I copy & paste this info... just trying to reach any and all possible.

Thanks again for all the concern I got from the bus community!

Hi Guy's,

Mark just called me and asked me to update his post now that they know for sure what the problem is.

The fiber gear sheered off and the mechanic thinks that there is damage to the compressor and it has been

sucking in bad air... The gear is an easy get but, the compressor is not. He gave me the comp #'s and maybe someone

knows where he can obtain this comp . He is in Platte Nebraska on I-80, the comp #'s are

Type 600, C25-IC Gear driven Horrizonal attatched to a 8V71

If you know where Mark can get one, Please call him ASAP at 503-842-0155

Thanks Nick-

Hey folks, I been busy on the road lately and just read this post for the first time. So I apologize for the delayed response, but here is the info all of us should keep handy! It's a builder/rebuilder I get a lot of hard to find parts from regularly, their prices are fair, their service is fast, & they usually have the part in stock ready to ship. Also they stand behind their products, I have had a compressor fail and a new one was one the way before I was off the phone! So put this info in yer contact list for future reference! BK  ;D
