Jake brake vs. Exhaust brake

I concur with tom,

you can put an Exhaust Brake on a 2 stroke...and it will work....up till the point  something fails.....

be it

Blower shaft seals or the blower shaft.

Jake is very simple...works and provided good braking forces.

Most exhaust brakes I have been exposed to are good for reducing brake wear through less use but on big grades don't cut the mustard.

The Retarder in my Allison gives about the same performance......good for slowing  in normal situations....but pretty useless on a 6% grade
