I just did a name change from Captain Ron to Charley Davidson, I added my new domain names to my account Charleydavidsonshow.com and charleydavidson.net. My old domain was expired and is in a redemption period and they want $137.00 to get it back or I can wait 30 days and get it for $4.95 I'll wait.
The problem I need help with is getting my old files from Netfirms.com redirected to my new domain with netfirms. Could any of you do this for me? If so call me at 2-3-9-2-9-2-1-7-5-0 Thanks in advance.

Ron, since I used to have a Rupp also, could I trade that for a copy of one of your shows? I sincerely doubt you will ever get back here to WV so I could see you in person, but would sure love to see your show.
Richard
BTW, I added a clickable link for everybody's convenience.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a good Reisling in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming:  WOO HOO, what a ride

Thanks Richard but the web site is basically useless like it is as you cannot get into the pages past those two. The little links that now say "captainronshow" won't take you into the website pages. and I don't know how to redirect them to open up in my new domain. And I don't know how to upload the saved files from when the site was built. I have it in Dream Weaver but would be better if done from netfirms control panel.

DrivingMissLazy

But it does show a good writeup of your show, and the only other pages I was interested in getting into is on the right side of the page!!
Richard
Sorry I can not help you on the other problem. Maybe Dallas will chime in, Huh Dallas?

There's more of that and better on the other pages ;D

Ron,

I tried going to your old website but they have the IP shutdown completely.

If you can email me a way to get to the control panel, I may be able to set up the redirects for you. Most likely you'll have to wait until the 30 days is up to be able to collect your files off the server.
you may also be able to access your server through the front end instead of through your back end control panel. That is if they gave you that option when you signed up for the Captain Ron Show website.

Have you ever done a back up from your server to your personal computer? That would be really helpful.

Other than those options, I'm not sure there's anything I can do.

Edit:
I just did a query at DNSstuff and at Network Solutions. It seems as if your website information will be or has been deleted.
Here is the whois from Net. Sol.

   Domain Name: CAPTAINRONSHOW.COM
   Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
   Whois Server: whois.tucows.com
   Referral URL: http://domainhelp.opensrs.net
   Name Server: NS1.NETFIRMS.COM
   Name Server: NS2.NETFIRMS.COM
   Status: pendingDelete
   Updated Date: 01-jun-2007
   Creation Date: 20-mar-2003
   Expiration Date: 20-mar-2007

Dallas, I sent you the info

Dallas

Ron, I'll check email in a little while, my cell battery has to recharge first.

In the meantime, I've saved a bunch of the pages and files that were archived on other sites. Not all of them got archived, so I lost a little bit.

If you have it all in Dreamweaver, Just change the site settings and make sure that you have the FTP login for the new site. Then let DW take care of rebuilding from the source files.

I doubt that a redirect will work since it sounds like you now have 2 different accounts, You will need to manually transfer a copy of the original site to the new one making sure that you have the links and email addresses changed accordingly.

The control panel for you old site should still work under your original account on the server unless you used the same company that expired your domain name as the one hosting your site.

If you stayed with the same company, That is just lame especially since they sound like they are trying to hold your original domain name hostage even after you explained that you are on the road and just messed up. ( your excuse for a bleeding heart...)( or SOB story ...) Whichever....

Got it fixed, Thanks guys for the help. I'm still in a learning curve in life. The only thing I lost was all my old E-mail and contact list, which really sucks

Dallas

Glad you got it going Ron!

Wish I could have helped more!

Dallas, It's the fact that you would have done this for me that counts, I'm glad I was able to do it myself so I learn a little more about my website and how to do some of the stuff and thank you Dr. Dave. If you would have shared all of your knowledge with me you would have had to change your name to Dr. Dave Unloaded  ;D

Shhhhhh... Don't tell anyone that I know how DreamWeaver works.... It's a secret.

The "Know-it-all" gurus out there would have you think it takes weeks and all knowing intelligence to fix a broken website and is very expensive. NOT !

I sure miss HOT DOG PRO, That was one of the best packages out there for a long time....

Ron, I doubt that you could absorb all my knowledge. Heck I surprise myself sometimes....

And people wonder why I am a head case at times.... It's the darned computers !!!! :'( :'(

I have to agree with Dr. Dave.

Some of the webhosting companies offer website services and charge out the Wazoo for it in the hosting package.

I've seen some websites written by hosting companies that look like they used crayons and elmers glue to cobble together.

It really isn't that hard, so maybe you could practice by setting up a copy of your website known only to you as a subdomain. Then, play with it, add stuff, remove stuff, import, export, change permissions, write new pages, add photo's and videos, until you have it like you want it. After that, see if everything works and fix all the broken stuff, then send it live on the main board.

Good Luck!
