GASKET MATERIAL FOR RADIATOR

The cork that came with the radiator was gasket tape, it may have lasted had it not been so thin.  I have a small leak by the bottom tank where the bolt holes are, seeping through the gasket.  I was considering using
some neoprene rubber, which is supposedly superior to the cork rubber material.  Anyway, the last time I had
to replace the core, 3 years ago, it was a pain by yourself, I would like to do it right this time for a long time.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Be careful with neoprene rubber. It can push out of place if coolant gets between it and tanks or core. Tighten more and it keeps bulging out. Maybe the core manufacturers sell the gaskets only.

Is the metal re-enforcing strip (the one on the exterior of the header plate) wavey?

Last time I recored a rad the cork tape was 3/16" thick. Sticky on one side as well. Never had any problems with it leaking.

You can buy rubber sealing tape with pre holes if you prefer it over cork

When I recored my radiator a few years ago, Atlas Radiator in Santa Fe Springs CA sold me a roll of Johnson 235-24 cork gasket tape (the thicker of Johnson's two types).   I drilled all the 5/16" bolt holes in it, and tightened the bolts only until it just began to squeeze out.   After a day or so I snugged down the bolts very slightly, and the radiator then held 10 PSI test-pressure for 24 hours without any pressure loss before I installed it.

The metal plate that has the holes is a little wavey. I traced the bolt hole pattern that Mark requested from equal seal.com, they took the pattern and made me two gaskets continuous pattern 1/8 inch thick out of C-4401, the company that sent me a radiator used oval holes not round.

I will assemble hopefully it will hold.
