thanks buswarrior and everyone!

I got a Vanner 66-100 24v DC 100 amp equalizer off of ebay at a pretty good price.  From reading up, it looks exactly what I need and pretty simple to wire up.  Will let you all know once it's done and hopefully I don't destroy anything b/c I'm well known for that.

Sounds great - take photos and let us know how it goes.

Are those both 12v or one 12v and one 24v? Output? If these are all you've got, then I'm assuming that you're not running the OTR a/c system. Nice setup though. Did you have to install the drive pulley or was it already there?

Hi all,

I personally would go with a 24/12 dc-dc converter (step-down). It is better than an equalizer. Just install two equally charged battery and let your 24v alternator charge them. Tap your 12v from the dc-dc converter and there never will be imbalance. Where i work (fleet of 1800 transit bus) we are switching from equalizer to converter (bus manufacturer is only delivering that technological upgrade).

Look at this link for example; http://www.samlexamerica.com/products/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=72

only my two cents...

The big alternator is 12v 160 amps, and will run one roof air through my inverter, the small one is 24v 60amp for the starting batteries.  The pulley runs off the transmission PTO that used to run the bus A/C compressor.

On MCIs, people run two alternators off the blower drive pulley with 2 belts solving the 24v/12v charging requirements.  Cheaper than converters or equalizers, and an easy fabrication.
