Restoring 1947 GMC PD-3751 Silversides -- Seats and Other Parts?

Hi all,

I'm planning to restore an original 1947 GMC PD-3751 Silversides coach. I'm searching for original seats and a few other parts. I've already contacted Gene Russell in NC. Are there other sources for vintage parts, like conversion shops that have removed the original seats, or collectors who are parting out buses? Alternatively, has anyone successfully replicated passenger seats for these buses?

You need to contact Boomer here on the board he knows where the parts are for Silversides.I have a friend that has 6 of those if he abandons his project I'll put you in touch with him

Where are you from? Have we talked, or met? 3751 seats are getting very difficult to find. You are in need of a full set? Boomer never had any seats. Do you still have parcel racks?

Hi Tom,

I'm new to the bus/coach hobby. I'm in SoCal. No, we haven't met yet -- hello!

My '47 PD-3751 is all original, and still has the driver's seat, the front right-side seat pair, and the front left-side seat pair. The rest of the seats have been removed. So I presume I need 8 right-side seat pairs, and 8 left-side seat pairs (for a total of 18 seats, plus the driver's, gives us 37 seats I'm assuming). My coach also has the parcel racks intact (although may be missing a little trim).

I was hoping that folks doing the standard motor coach conversion would be removing the original seats, so that some seats might be available for sale. But I have been learning that these seats are hard items to locate, so I figured I'd try to pick up one or two here and there, and thus some day hopefully obtain a complete set.

Any help in my search would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if the seats in a 4101 are the same as 3751 ?

For reference, attached are photos of one pair of my original seats. I have heard that there are two different types of seats in PD-3751 buses, early models and later models.

Bernhard Bus in PA also referred me to US Coach in NJ. I spoke with US Coach last week, who referred me to Gene Russell in NC. Neither Bernhard Bus nor US Coach has any 3751 seats.

You could check with Wayne at Crawford coach in McCoyville, Pa. They used to have a couple of those vintage GM's in their field several years back. Don't have the number anymore.
