There was a huge rain storm Sunday night in the Texas hill country near Junction, and it flash flooded the South Llano River which washed away the South Llano RV Park.  I saw on the San Antonio News a video of an MCI bus laid on its side just under the bridge.  I found a youtube clip:

You can see it at the 44 second mark.

Four people are still missing.  It was about 2:00am when this happened.  No warning, and everyone was asleep in their rigs.  Wow, you never know.

Yep, that's a sad story to be sure.

And then my Youtube rolled over  the next video - featuring a true class act gentlemen.  I'd never seen the video before though it's obviously been out there a while.  Ernest Borgnine showing off his Prevost bus - the Sunbum.  Didn't know what to expect when the video started, but wow.  Nothing pretentious at all about the man.  Class, kindness, and to read the comments by most folks.  Great stuff.

I stumbled on his video a little while ago as well. The sad thing is he died within that same year the video was made.

You might be surprised to know that Clarence Thomas is  a Prevost RV owner, and people who have happened upon him on the road have commented how down to earth he is, pretty much what I have found to be true for the vast majority of bus/RV owners I've met over the last 40 years

Unfortunately I was camping in a tent on Sunday night near Coleman TX in a thunderstorm.  I woke at 4:45 am and by 5:05 my tent was disassembled during a lull in the storm and all my stuff was safely back in my Jeep.

I remember evacuating a tent in Kandahar, Afghanistan during rainy season and sleeping in the back of an MRAP all night.
Ever since then, I won't camp near a low-lying area or a WADI (or where the Corps of Engineers are redirecting a drainage ditch).

I am re-remided of why I converted a bus!

A friend of mine was camping near Lancaster, Pa., when he was wakened at about 2:30 am that stream was starting to overflow it's bank from flash storm. Water was around his feet when he pulled his 5th wheel out.

There are some riverside sites at the TT campground in Lancaster. When we were there last month it looked like they've been underwater multiple times. They were down a hill from the main part of the campground, so I assumed that they were a 'use at your own risk' kind of site.

I did the WADI thing as a kid camping with my father in Yosemite--boy could he pick 'em.  What I didn't expect was the wild ride across the Ca desert in a zipped up tent rooted out by the wind.  Yee Haw!  I guess mom (mother mature) never liked me much--but then, I'm still here!?!  Jack

WADI ? ok I will bite what is it? :)
Ok found it. A dry riverbed that only is wet when a rainstorm comes along or low lying valley.

Wadi is an Arabic word for dry wash/ gulley, the kind of riverbed that gets nailed in a flash flood. When we camped in Saudia Arabia, we tried to set camp where we wouldn't get washed out. At least here, I'd assume the NWS issues real time warmings of weather that sends water flowing during storms.
