Tapatalk was their only way to read and participate...??? What operating system won't let you read and participate if you use android or ios.

There are people out there that access things through a particular app on their device. In this case we're talking about TapaTalk, in other cases it could be a different app. Not everyone out there has multiple devices (laptop, desktop, iPad, etc) and use just the one method. Some people are just not tech savy and wouldn't think to go through a web browser as a workaround. I've got a friend like that - he will access online forums through an app on his iPhone, and if he can't get to the forum through the app he just assumes that the forum is having problems and stops trying. I would try ten different ways to get in, but not everyone will do that.

An easy way to check is to compare before/after active user lists to see how many we've lost. Like I mentioned earlier, it seems to me that there are at least a few people that are no where as active now as they were before the updates.

Either Scott has had phenomenal luck with his bus lately, or the lack of Tap/Talk has really put a damper on his posts. He always posted a lot of big pictures easily, and we always heard about every malfunction. If the security issues of Tap/Talk are a real problem though, it might be better for the majority to avoid it. Perhaps there is some other similar app that is safe that people with smart phones (primarily) could use?

TapaTalk is an advanced process.
you need to start from a browser to get it.
the only benefit it had was pictures.
that goes away now and adds maybe 2 clicks...
the security issue is not for the tapatalk user but the the board.
if it jeopardizes the board isn't it selfish to want it...
even if 100% of the users wanted it ?

TapaTalk is a stand-alone app on my Android device. No need to open a browser to access the forum. Not sure about registration since I was registered before I found TapaTalk. I have registered for other forums through TapaTalk without ever going through a browser.

The advantages go far beyond just uploading photos. Ease of use on a small screen was the primary issue for me, with the low data use a close second. Some of the improvements to the forum have helped and made the photo upload issue much better. The ease of use and other value of using an app like TapaTalk are still there.

Sorry, but a good percentage of the online world is not browser based anymore. If we are going to continue to bring in the next generation to the hobby then it would seem to me that the communication needs to be open to those people in the way that they are going to find it. If someone is browsing through apps like Feedly (mainly blogs) or Tapatalk (mainly online forums) for their content, they're only going to see the content that is on those platforms.

If there is no way to securely add the TapaTalk module to the forum, then of course I wouldn't push the issue. However, the last I read on the forum was that the powers-that-be were going to investigate whether or not there were ways to mitigate/correct the security issues. I do not believe that we've heard back a definitive answer to that yet.

TapaTalk is still around - I use it on other forum on my phone all the time. Maybe they had an update push through. Sometime apps will lose their icon on my home screen after an update. The app is still there and just needs the icon put back.

As far as this forum is concerned, I've been using Firefox's browser on my phone with pretty good results, but I do miss the app.

Actually on my Samsung s4, I can now read the posts easily since the update. Before I had to go to landscape view and make the screen larger.

does anyone know what to search for in tapatalk to get the app?  I put in bus conversion and nothing.

TapaTalk is the name of the app. You install it on your phone and use it to access various forums.

This forum is no longer available on TapaTalk. You can view and post to it through a browser on a smartphone pretty easily now. The update installed a mobile version that display well and allows photo uploads directly from the smartphone camera.

Just open you smartphone browser and enter the URL just like you do on a desktop browser. Log yourself in and have fun.
