I'm always going back and forth on the proper way to check the oil level on a ht 740. Should the level be checked while running or after setting for while to let the oil drain back to the pan?

Thanks guys,

Jack

How the heck do you read the oil level on the dipstick?  I have fresh new red Dexron in mine, and old eyes, and man it's hard to read the level on the dipstick.

Don't drill them too large and have the end of dipstick break off.

The marks can be center punched or simply touch the bit. the dimple will hold oil.

Instead of adding stress raisers to something that flexes, just put a small piece of adhesive heatshrink on the dipstick at the correct level.

It was developed at the University of Dayton (Ohio) with and for the military, and was big news back in 2007. Apparently it ran into trouble of some kind as a commercial product (the approximate cost of $500 probably did not help). The Truckersmall.net site lists it, but it is marked discontinued. The internet domain name intellistick.com is for sale, so it looks like it did not work out well for them.  :'(

http://www.raventechcorp.com/Products.html   Is it now made by a South African company?   Some European cars have been using this technology for a while, so it should be mature by now.   I wonder if it's related to the chip detectors used in helicopter gearboxes?   Sounds promising.

Do you remember what name they go by now, or what company sells it? I have not found anything on it.
