I serviced my air dryer and while I was under the bus by the front axle I was doing routine checking to be sure everything is as it should be.  I noticed that the two tanks behind the front axle have the drains on the side of the tank up about an inch and a half or so.  The right tank had a lot of water in it which I drained along with all the other drains I saw. I was wondering if there is something that should be done to FINISH emptying the tank on the drivers side.  It seems like if there was liquid coming out the drain that is not on the bottom that there is still liquid in the tank.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If there is no bottom drain on the fuel tank buy a plastic tube siphon pump and get all the water you can removed.  Water is very bad, it will corrode your tank bottom.  Then use a fuel additive to pour in your tanks to break down the remaining water.

He means his 2 air tanks. One on passengers side is the emergency or park tank and the other is the wet tank, air dryer is in the middle on the other wall. I have the same tanks on my 5C and same place. I pull the drains completely out let them drain if anything in them over night. Put a 1/4 tube in to the bottom with a small 12 volt pump and see if any more comes out the tube with the pump. Generally not much but some. More out of the wet tank. Do the same with the dry tank. once a year.

I agree with you Geoff that water is bad in the tanks.  That is the reason for my question.  These are AIR tanks.  That is the reason for my concern.  There are two of them.  Side by side and neither one has a drain on the bottom.  I could use a wet / dry vac and take out what you can suck up through the opening when the drain is removed.  I could also use a camera to look inside the tank and see what condition it is in BUT it appears that this is the factory design and I am sure there are buses that have been in service longer than mine with no issues BUT at some time there will be issues.  Ask Scott about tanks going bad.  Scott's tank went bad from the outside in so that is a little different. I am just trying to plan how to keep ahead of problems. I don't want to pull the tanks but I don't want  to have problems either.

Thanks for the response.

PS.  Years ago I was going into Play Bonita as you were leaving Geoff and you have one good looking machine.  ;-)

Thanks for the compliment.  It seems to me that when you drain the air tanks the air pressure picks up the moisture and once the air blows clear the water is gone.  I hope your air dryer service resolves the moisture problem.

Dave

You were typing as I was typing.  I read your post and it didn't seem to make a difference to what I was posting to Geoff so I just let it go.

I do not ignore anyone because I like the drama.  ;-)

I will be back under the coach to replace the two front bump stops  ( note: these are not bump stocks ) so when I get back in there I will try to siphon with some quarter inch tubing to see what comes out.  As I mentioned I have a scope and may take a look in side the tanks with that as well.

Melbo be careful with the Bump stops. I took mine out and the center bolt broke off on both of them. If you get them out put no-seize on them. It took me forever to drill them out with only 3 inches in there. sock with Koil cut slot in top of broken off bolt. Tap with chisel drill at an angle and with an angle head and heat etc. 4 days later I mixed up some metal epoxy and they have been good for 9,000 miles so far.

I would be pro-active on the bump stops.  I would cut the rubber off with a saw (or a big flat chisel), heat the center bolt cherry red to the point of almost melting, repeat a few times, then try to unscrew the flat metal plate with a big pipe wrench.  It might work, it worked on one of mine.

one came off with not much problem. Second one would not move brian the rubber was gone on mine,LOL. I heated it up and put a lot of koil on the thing. That broke the plate lose and was able to start it to spin then it stopped. Big pipe  wrench on it with heat and it finally started turn and then it broke off the bolt. I tried everything I had, angle head drill attachment because it was only 3 inches between it and the frame rail above. could not drill it out. So put grooves in it to put a chiesl in the groove with a wrench and broke the chisel. JB did it well.
