I run 6 11R-24.5 on my bus (AMGeneral transit 10240B). I had 16ply Michelin XZE on, but were 12 years old and was starting to see side wall cracking. I got a price from my tire guy (Rays OK Tire in El Monte, Ca) for both 14ply Michelin and for Hankook AH37's. Well, mounted, balanced out the door difference was almost $1,200. So I went with the Hankooks. I figure if Freightliner offers Hankooks from the factory, they must be good. We discovered the inner nuts were wrong (were for steel wheels when I have aluminum) and we changed them. So with mounting, new tire stems, balancing of all tires, 20 new inner nuts, it was right at $3,000. Will be good for the next 12 years. Good Luck, TomC

Those are good tires TomC the casinos here have Hankooks on all their buses and it gets hot here

Yea I was told we should change them out every 7yrs no matter the miles drivin on them.

Hey, Tom. Which Hankook tire type (AH37 or AH12) did you buy? I need some 255/70-R22.5 tires and it looks like they're the same Rolling-radius as Michelin, 17.4" or very close to it.

I ran AH12 on my MC-5 with excellent results. I think they are an excellent value. The only question in my mind is how much difference there is between those tires and the Michelin XZE from a ride quality standpoint. Our "new" 2000 Country Coach came with XZE and it certainly rides nice. But it also has Independent Front Suspension, etc. etc. In a tire with that kind of load rating how much variation is there from manufacturer to manufacturer regarding ride quality?

Michelin does have a reputation for a nice ride, at least when new. At half or less tread, may be about same as any other. Dunno.

I think if you buy Freightliners in a bunch from Cleveland NC you can spec what tire you want.

The 315/22.5 Michelin ride like a rock after 4 years

Compared to all the rest? 16 to 20 play can ride rough and depends on coach suspension age, tire pressure, air bag pressure, strut rod bushing hardening, torflex rubber hardening, all tires ride rougher as they age. You hit a good pothole and any tire will rattle your teeth, even a 3/4 ton truck with 10 play tires.

The 315/22.5 Michelin's ride a lot better on a 9 inch wide wheel than the 8-/4 I found out ,now all mine except the tag are 9 in wide and I am working on the tags

Just the ride home, the new Hankook AH37's ride a bit harder at the same 90psi. But next week will be a better test since we're going out to Indio for the FMCA rally staying with Northwest Busnuts. Hope to see some of you there!
