We often find ourselves parked at my
In laws driveway, at a friends' house etc for sometimes several weeks at a time. We know we are power hungry because our coach is heavily electric. I've been wanting to find an easy way to keep accurate track of our power usage so I can recompense my friends and family
for the juice we use when we are parked and plugged into their 50amp outlets. After a ton of research I finally bought the efergy elite TPM system. It has a wireless transmitter that I hardwired into the panel and then it has a little digital receiver that tells me everything I need to know, average usage for day, week, month as well as cumulative usage, etc. it can be programmed with 5 different power rates and so far it's working flawlessly. Basically just snap the tone rings around the two hot wires coming into the panel and hard wire the transmitter into the panel and you're done.

I've not had the pleasure of being at friend's or families homes where we've stayed longer than the house batteries could support us. Everywhere else we've been the electric is included or they've been providing the meter  ::). It is amazing how much juice we use a day, even when the temps are warm. I like the gadgets though and I like the idea of double checking the park meters.  ;D

Fulltiming since 2004 and paying for metered electric i pretty much know what my coach (all electric) utility costs are.

Average would be $100.00 per month on a pole. High in July $160.00, off heat/AC months are $50-$60.00.
$200-$300 a month would be easy to offer for driveway surfing.

Thanks John I think it's pretty cool to watching my own meter zing away...

Dave, your setup is waaaay cheaper. Wish I had seen that earlier! So you actually keep track of each leg and combine them in your head?

Will, I am amazed that some months our electric bill in the coach is over $200...it's nuts and I need to start working on reducing that...

Donald, your usage is slightly less than mine. My family and friends have to be arm twisted to take money for power so there's no way on earth I'd be able to pay them anything above that...so if I can track my power usage and give them an honest payment for my usage, I can get them to take it.

I like the it this way as I can see how much power on each leg is used , it helps when on the genne to see if it is balanced and yes if I ever want to see how much power I have used I just add the 2 together

the coach came with a system that does the same thing but only by way of amps only but it is not as accurate
