I don't get why some feel the need to record the dash.  The only thing that I would think would be useful is the speedometer and a GPS enabled dashcam can take care of that.

I have used one since January 2015. I have some interesting encounters saved, including a guy slamming on his brakes as he came into my lane the first day I used the camera. I assume he was mad that I could not get over. I am pretty sure he gave me a pretty severe cussing that I could not hear but I pointed at the camera until he saw it. He then left in a cloud of smoke.

Mine is mounted high near the center post of the windshield and I have two 64 G cards. It takes a bunch of days of driving to fill up one card. It records the GPS coordinates and my speed. It can record sound but I choose not too.

As has been pointed out, all of the information could bite me in an accident but the risk is worth it. Richard's clip is only reinforces that for me.

Rural King had one for about $50 recently and a two camera set up for $100.

This is mine. I do not know if it is available any more.
