Word has got out about my bus amongst my hockey friends, I'm headed up to Duluth MN, in October for a hockey tournament and probably letting a few other guys bunk in the bus.   It looks like seasonally it will be 50s in the day and 30s at night.

Do you think we'll need heat or will the heat from all the electronics / fridge / etc keep it warm enough at night? .  During the day with  most of my windows still in tact I suspect it will be plenty warm.

You'll need heat.  Those windows that let the warm in will let the heat out.  If you still have the ome heat, you could add a Webasto boiler to provide heat or idle the engine.

Plenty warm during the day, will freeze by morning. If it's 30 outside, it will be close to that inside even with a lot of body heat floating around. If you have access to 120V I would throw in a simple milkhouse heater for the trip and if not, I would throw in a simple catalytic (Little Buddy) and leave a couple windows cracked if your bus is airtight. You won't lose much more heat through a cracked window than a closed one: they're not thermopanes!  ;D

Neon, curtains, or better yet honeycomb blinds will help retain the heat. Immediately  there is paper temporary peel off glue strip blinds at home depot,  will help a little, lvmci...

If the bus is still gutted when you go,  your bus has zero insulation. I'd hang a heavy blanket to make a sleeping room and keep that area heated using options provided above.

I tried those pleated paper blinds from Home Depot, they look alright but they are extremely temporary. The glue strip can't hold the load and can fall off within 24 hrs.  :o

Walls  have an effective 4 inches of insulation or so, roof is 1.5 to 3 inches depending.

We're hoping to get some cellular blinds in soon as well.

We'll need to figure something out.

My bus has a combination canvas and translucent pop up top that sheds heat like a convertible with the top down.  30 degrees outside and it was 25 degrees inside.  I suspended a good quality down comforter from the roof using snaps ( still allows me to stand).  20 billion ducks can't be wrong--just our body heat keeps the sleeping area 15 degrees  above the outside  (when it is thirtish, does'nt get much colder than that here).

We also use a down comforter under and above us when we sleep if it is cold.  MMMM, makes me want to go camping!

Enjoy the adventure!

Suggest the boyz bring serious sleeping bags, and toques.

If you can get away with it, idle the beast this time, but you need a better, long term plan for the future!
