I purchased a Baldwin PA2721 filter ( eco-filter style ) for my 8V71NA, which formerly had oil-bath, then temporary paper filters.

No identifying marks anywhere on the filter housing to indicate which hole is inlet, or outlet.  I have to plumb some 6" flex hose to make this work....I just want to get the done right the first time.

My question...is the side hole in the filter can the inlet, or is it the outlet?  Or does it make any difference?

Whichever side has the metal mesh to prevent the element from coming apart should face the engine. Read what happens when an 8v71 sucks one of those exact filters in. Personally I wouldn't use that filter at all after reading the following article:

I had an oil filter split the seam...NAPA WIX or Donaldson or Farr.

Hi Mark seems like if it is like a truck mount which it looks like the intake is on the bottom and the flow out into the engine would be the side hole. But just guessing from that write up and the way they sit on a truck but the artical also said it didn't matter.

The intake should be the opening you can see the outside of the filter element  and the outlet should pull from the center of the filter but I can see it working both ways, the ones with the tampered cones inside are marked inlet and outlet
