Adjusting brake pedal

I gather my brake pedal goes into the master cylinder and that removing the master cylinder affords access to the retaining nut that allows me to adjust pedal height.

I have a DT466 and think I've identified the master cylinder. If I were to remove it, how much brake fluid am I likely to need to replace?

Do you have a brake booster?  It is a big contraction between the firewall and the master brake clyinder.  If you do, that may be the problem.

I don't believe that is a height adjustment, that adjusts the slack from your brake pedal to the master cylinder, look inside the vehicle and you'll most likely see a stop for the pedal you won't move kit any further up than that.

There is a brake booster. I've looked at the pedal inside and it disappears into a rubber boot and heads out to the master cylinder.

That should never need adjusting. If your pedal is too low and it's not spongy your rear brakes are out of adjustment. If you have disc brakes on the front warped rotors can also cause this.

Do you have the hydro boost system with the electric backup pump, driven off the power steering pump? Is the pedal not coming back up enough to hit the stop light switch / hydro boost monitor switch?

I've got a '88 IHC/Navistar S1654 with a dually bed on it that i drive daily.

My problem is the brake pedal is set so high my knee collides with the wheel trying to access it. It's about 4 inches higher than my acellerator.

I believe there is a hydromax

I would try and find a set of manuals. Though Carpenter may have just used the
international / navistar series, i suspect the 4700-4900 series.
Below is a pretty nice link for the hydro-max. Around page 17-18 are some specific
ratios if you want to or need to adjust brake pedal height in a repair. The actual ih manuals im sure would make this an easier adjustment if you could get a set. Btw i believe it was 94 that the 466 had some mid year changes fwiw. And just incase your a fan ( if it aint red keep it in the shed )
