Anyone know what a complete 8v92 Jake Brake system should cost?

There are a few on Ebay now coming from military engines and i was tempted....

Im assuming I can transplant six of the eight units into my 6v92?

If I can rebuild a diesel can I install Jakes or is there some magical 10k$ tool required?

I had two sets of the military 8V92TA Jake brakes.  One came with the newer Jake fuel lines requiring O rings.  Both had fast idle on the governor hi/lo rpm speed adjustor.  New style buffer screw Jake switch.  They will work on the 6V92 with Jake valve covers.  Make sure you get the covers with the breathers and oil fill angled for your engine.

So I should be looking for "New style buffer" ?

I have a pair of valve cover spacers that came off of a 6v71 -will those work?

New style buffers take away some frustration but you loose the fast idle, then buy you a  Jake feeler gauge beats trying to stack 2 feeler gauges, the spacers will work ok but do seep oil.Do your home work on adjusting the buffer or it will get away from you in hurry, and do not forget to adjust the bridges they are going to off taking those from another engine

If they are from a military engine it will be diffidently 24v,2 stage Jakes are a waste of good wire unless you just want 2 stage brakes  ;D

is there a way to easily visually identify if they are new style buffers?

I put 2-stage Jakes (just three wires to the dash) and after 7k miles on it I like the low/hi Jake switch.  When going down the Tehachipi mountain from AZ to CA the low switch is perfect for keeping the bus coasting at a speed where I and my wife were happy.  Turning the Jakes to hi would slow us down where I would have to give it throttle or slow to a stop.  Low may not stop you but it is good for coasting down the long grades.

What is a reasonable price to pay for the parts? 500?

If they need rebuilding what is involved?

I doubt the seller knows what a "complete" Jake components set is.  I sold a set on this board for $500.  Everything-- valve covers, fast idle, hi/lo switch with authentic toggle switch and name plate, new buffer,-- I mean everything you could think of.  Unless the seller gives you a breakdown of all the parts I would pass.  Go to the parts for sale on this Board and search Jake brakes and you will find my ad listed with every part.

Anyone know if part # PN 8925269 is a tall valve cover to fit a 6v92?

There seems to be a lot of different placements of oil breathers , fill caps , or non of the above in these valve covers.

My short valve covers do not have fill caps or breathers.

What is preferable?
