Black window frames vs White window frames

Im in the process of ordering windows from Motion and I have the option of black or white window frames.

I like the look of black window frames, I like the look of the dark tinted glass, but my engineering brain keeps interrupting with how much cooler it would be with white frames and solar cool bronze glass.

The motion windows do not have a thermal break in them so hot frames on the outside = hot frames on the inside.

Anyone have white frame windows who can give some supporting feedback to the idea of white frames are cooler.

Thanks!

You will still have the heat transfer no matter what color the frames are till you figure away to break the bond. Here in Az I would say 90% of homes the frames are brown but they have a bond breaker to stop the heat transfer.
FWIW my Peninsula windows with the black frames do not transfer the heat or cold to the inside of the bus YMMD

I have double pane Motion Windows in my truck with black frames, light tinting, and square corners (not rounded). The windows are mounted with a separate piece that screws onto the outside frame that squeezes the window tight. No heat transfer. Good Luck, TomC

Engineering aside, which colour is likely to be a giant #$^^&&#!! in appearance and upkeep as they age?

happy coaching!

A piece of foam weather strip between the inner and outer frame will mitigate heat transfer - FWIW

If the frames are anodized aluminum, as opposed to being painted or powder-coated, some black anodizing turns a weird brown/gold-ish hue after exposure to sun.   Not all black anodizing does this, so I guess it depends on the type of dye used in the anodizing process?   If it's hot outside, I don't think the color will make any noticeable difference to heat conductivity through the frames, i.e. don't rely on a white outside frame feeling any cooler inside!   You need proper thermal isolation to prevent conductivity of heat or cold.

 ???
how much load could this dilemma possibly put on an adequately sized heat/AC system....is it even measurable ?

add 8 btu to your calculation...that ought to handle it :)

Well I went with white frames.

I know it seems like a tiny amount to worry about but after messing around with a flir camera its amazing how much heat is conducted.

btw.. this is on my Christmas list > http://www.flir.com/flirone/

Both my bus and truck have Motion windows that are black anodized. Both are still looking black-no discoloring. Good Luck, TomC
