I fueled up and thought about adding oil, took off the fill cap and got my oil, I checked my oil again and it read full ,more oil must have drained down.  I replaced the fill cap and off we went .

I get to my campsite and notice some oil dots on the rear, then I see I have no fill cap.

1) what is a good field fix ?

2) have I caused damage by driving up to 160 miles.   I never noticed any loss of power really, she performed great for a 6v92ta . Would climb up to 70 if I let her.

You didn't hurt your engine.  The engine has positive pressure so not having the cap just makes a mess.  You don't say what kind of cap you have.  But for the time being just stuff a rag in the hole until you get the right one.

But tie the rag down so you don't lose it.  ;)

You can buy a cheap sewer test plug at Walmart or Ace for 3 dollars if you don't want to uses a rag it will seal it till you get the right expandable cap (plug)those are around 15 bucks

I like the plug idea better for the short term.  While the rag would keep the critters out it looks too much like a wick to me.

P.S.  How did the first trip out go?  Too much fun I hope!

Try a ZIPLOCK bag and a rubber band over if it's a raised thread type. Or, just a piece of packing tape.

Trip has gone great .

I really think everyone should drive a vehicle like this through merging traffic and construction though, it gives you a sense for what you can and can't do.

Had a lady flip me off for slowing down so I didn't run her into the guard rail. I know I could slow faster than I can accelerate.

Running only 1 AC  while driving stinks. But I think with a larger inverter I can solve that.   I run the mach 15 on a 3000w aims 24v inverter now.
