Ok guys.....I am sure I am going to look really stupid here but......

What is behind the bulkhead on the drivers side in the back of an MCI 102A3?

I want to hang a 12K mini split off the back of the bus in an angle iron frame.  I can get to a support brace behind where the bathroom was to bolt through it but not sure what I would get into if I go through that bulkhead.

The air intake for the engine is located there, along with the radiators.

We would be well above the radiators.

I just found instructions on putting in an auxiliary AC unit, and it looks like the area I want to go through to do this project is empty.  It is where they mounted the evaporator unit for those auxiliary units.

Yes.  I will get better pictures once it is finished and running, but it is attached to the frame top and bottom.  Solid as a rock.

I saw that one on F/B and was wondering if the unit is powerful enough to overcome the low air pressure zone when driving keep us posted interesting, you are diffidently going to need to keep the oil drips under control with the unit mounted there

My over the road air is working great, and so I dont really plan to use it going down the road at this point in time.  It is a single head unit and the head is mounted in the back of the bus so that we are sure to have a cool place to sleep.

If my over the road air fails and I need it for whole bus cooling, I will probably have to put a second one on with the head in the living room.....one step at a time  :)

The air movement at the back rolls up from the bottom and curls forward, depositing whatever comes out from underneath, onto the rear of the coach.

You need to watch for, and may need to adopt a regime of cleaning the unit. Dust, gravel and oil.

After you have a couple thousand miles on it, please let the busnuts know how this is working out.

We like to copy one another.

happy coaching!

I'm happy with my multi-head mini-split.  It is very quite.  There are several different "heads", wall mounts, ceiling, floor mount, and one that you can connect ducts to.

Art,

Do you have any pictures of the compressor installation and heads? What brand did you end up installing?

I ask because I'll be aquiring a 1969 S8M-5303 from 'Charles in SC'. It had coach air, but was removed at some point. Charles built a sheet metal replacement housing for the unit on the rear top of the bus due to the original fiberglass housing disintegrating. It would be really nice to be able to put the outside unit of a split up there in that housing...

J.M.  I try to get you some pictures, but the last time I was unable to downsize  them enough to fit.  I have my unit in the space over my engine when the OTR AC fans were installed.  Check the spec's on the mini split for wall spacing.  Mine had close wall spacing.  I also have factory installed air scopes on each side of my coach.
I still haven't stress tested my unit.  I purchased an Diakin which has local parts and service.
