When I drove Fishbowl Brians VS2-8 tranny the wires fell off  the solenoid at the back tranny door and the same thing would happen. If you shut it down and check the wires on the solenoid first. You can also move the lever manually when shut off.

Here is what I got so far.

Earlier today the transmission did not want to go into gear, it eventually did.

Intermitant Clunking noise when toggleing from N to F  or N to R.

Doug, this trans is normaly controled with a pair of skinner valves that are electricly connected to a simple switch (f-n-r) an air ram mounted on the bottom of the trans moves the shift lever for & aft.  but on the bottom of the ram is a ball type lock-out that prevents the possibility of being in two gears at the same time. four wires connect to this lock-out switch and can cause your problem if any are broken.>>>Dan

Teke my friends VS2-8 has an external filter. If the pump is working you can see the lines flex and feel them pulsate by touching them. We had pressure. The shop mechanic he chose in Auburn Wa. told us the VS2-8 is a city transmission and that if it is driven on the freeway in high lock no fluid circulates and it will melt the rubber O rings inside the tranny. We were told that to use this tranny on the freeway to stop and cycle fluid often. $2000 fixed the tranny but we had to pull it.

Teke, the clunk you hear when you go into gear is the pump starting. Pull the pan and I think there will be shiney stuff. It doesn't take much, ( if you see it at all), it will need a clutch. High gear is direct lock up. At idle it should lock high if you short the solenoid and kill the engine.
