Sewer hose support?

I saw this item (and others like it), and I was wondering if they are used every time you empty the tank, or just when parked at a campsite that has a sewer connection at every rental slip.

Anyone have any experience using one? Are they worth the trouble?

Thanks :)

I use mine almost every time to keep the hose "going down hill" so to speak,, my hose drops thru the floor of the waste compartment so have to support it ,,works great..>>>Dan

I have one. I found it to be a bit of a nuisance.  It is lying on the ground near the bus where I dropped it when I removed it years ago.  Some people like them, so to each his own.

I had one for a while... eventually it fell apart.  Keeps the poop going downhill.  I also use it to create a P trap to keep smell from coming up from the ground when hooked up for a period of time.  Our vent comes up under our rear tire and once in a while you get a whiff of refuse when I don't have a trap set.

I only use the hose for dumping when the tank is full. I prefer a full tank that will make a strong flow down the drain plumbing and the hose so everything clears nicely. I then put the hose away till the tank is full again.

I had never had one, but because my outlet is so low, I got one. Now I do not need to pick up the line to empty it completely. Love that.
But if you're at a busy campground, set it up so that people who don't watch where they're going (or are just drunk) can't trip over it walking between coaches.

I am with JC, but I do carry one, I was some place were county ordinance,  you had to have hose secured and elevated.
So having one in the bay saved big bucks not having to buy one from the "friendly" camp host.

So I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have one of these stowed away, even if you only need it once in a while to avoid violating a county ordinance? :P

We have been in a couple of campgrounds over the years that required them. Although they said it was OK to dump without them, then pick up your hose right away. Not a problem for us.

As noted above, some RV parks require them.  I use one most of the time when I will be someplace for a while too as also noted above to keep the poop running down hill. Also, if you develop a leak in your hose, which you will eventually, if you have any dips in your hose it will fill the hose at that spot and will leak, maybe only a pin hole at first but that is enuf to upset the neighbors.

They also prevent your hose from moving on the rocks/gravel whatever every time you get in and out of your coach or have an earthquake or whatever by keeping it off the ground and on non-abrasive plastic. It is the constant chaffing that will wear a small hole in your hose and there ain't no patching those sewer hoses.

They can be a bit of a pain to set up because they tend to try to tip over until you get your hose placed under them correctly.

Also it is no fun removing your sewer hose from your dump valve and having sewer run down your arms. Been there. Done that. This gadget will help things going downhill so when it is time to remove your hose, hopefully there will be no surprises left in the hose to run backwards, especially if you parked on a bit of a downhill slope.

Even if you don't want to use one for all of the above reasons, it is a good lightweight item that you should carry in your bus.  Also it is a good idea to completely flush out your hose with fresh water before you put it away.  Run fresh water thru it long enuf so you feel it is okay to drink coming out the far end.   :D

There's a lot of opportunities to buy RV related gadgetry - this is just one example.  We carry one and rarely dig it out.  I've used it at poorly built campgrounds where the sewer pipe sticks 4 or 5 inches above the ground and maybe twice in a park that mandated their use.  As someone else posted, if you find yourself in such a location you can always just not hook up.  I would never buy another one but I've bought worse, less useful crap over the years.
