I need a pass side windshield for my 5C. We recently moved to Alberta from BC, and I need an "Out Of Province" inspection to register the bus here. I hope they don't mind a couple of cracks in the pass side windshield. Even if they pass it, I would like to replace it. Trying to get one locally in Calgary if I can.

Are driver's and pass side interchangeable? Looks like they are.

Aren't they the same as other buses, like MC 7, 8 ?

If I can't find one here, where do I look? Does MCI still have them? Luke? Isn't there a place in Oregon that has them? I'll make some calls to some local bus companies too.

Thanks, and happy Thanksgiving to all Canadian bus nuts.

JC, I don't think they will interchange from side to side if they are the same as a 7 I have 3 here 1 left and 2 rights they don't belong to me but he will sell them cheap .
I know they are not interchangeable on a 7 because they taper from the bottom to the top you can see it in the outer posts

I was told a few years ago that you could get them from MCI in Tenn. or Kentucky for $250?
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

From what I have gathered so far, the MCI part number for the 5C windshields is 3R-27-3 for left and right. That is off my parts manual. They do look the same from left to right, and measure the same too. That is the same part number for MC8, according to the Coach Glass web site. I always thought that the 5C is the same as an 8, only 5 feet shorter and only 2 axles obviously. I think, but don't know for sure, that the 5A and B is a little different, and more similar, if not the same, as the MC7. Coach Glass lists windshields with the same numbers for the 5 and 7, 3A-27-300 for the left, and 3A-27-301 for the right. They list them for MC9 and 12, and also for MC6 ! http://www.coachglass.com/inventory/motor_coach_transit_school_buses/motor_coach_windshields.php

So Clifford, it sounds like you have MC5A or B windshields.

Boomer, Pacific Western was a bus company in the 70s and 80s. I think they are called Laidlaw now, with a division called Red Arrow. I'll check them out, thanks.

Thanks Ed, I'll phone them too. I was in Fort Worth, TX last March with the bus. I should've called MCI in Dallas, but was in a hurry to get home (I don't know why...), and I didn't feel like spending an extra day going to Dallas. I should've...

JC here another one but is in NJ but they seem to have them all and yes 5C and 8 are the same.

Also if you have Safelite auto glass I did the quote thing and MCI 9 was in the list so maybe you could call them and ask if it is the same or if they can get yours. They will come to anyplace the vehical is parked to install and will work through your insurance if needed.

Pacific Western is the largest coach operator in Canada.  Their Red Arrow operation in Calgary is what I was referring to.  Way back in the day they ran MC-5's.  All Prevost now, many hundreds of them.

Wow!... I just hang up the phone with Coach Glass in Coburg, OR. They quoted me $558 for the glass, 85 for a crate, 154 freight, and 200 for the rubber gaskets. Then I would have to install it.

I have a couple of places in Calgary looking for one. We'll see what they come in at...

Hi JC,

Have you tried MCI parts? I got a windshield for our MC8 for $222.76, including shipping and tax, in 2011. Sometimes the manufacture is the cheapest source of parts. Good luck, Sam

Coach Glass has been crazy on their prices ever since it was bought out a few years back,I think you have to buy the older bus windshields from Vintage Parts now MCI sold all the older bus parts to Vintage last year lol and the prices went up

I had one windshield (MCI8 window) replaced in last couple of months here at Hometown Autoglass here in Brandon.

They billed insurance co. $699 for window, $300 freight, and $50 install plus 2 taxes.

My 7 had been involved in a collision some time before I bought it. At that time they "upgraded" the front end to 8 cap and windshields. The collision repair welding inside left A LOT to be desired! Found it when I was doing the roof raise. My welder checked it all and reinforced/rewelded plenty.

I was talking with a MCI parts rep this morning, who tells me that W W Williams in Las Vegas is a MCI parts and service center. If I called ahead, they would have a windshield for me to pick up and have installed when I am through there this winter. What do you local guys think of that?

I thought I had found a windshield near here at this guys bone yard, but after looking, he only has them for MC5A, B and MC9, and 102.

Onward.
