Trucking companies have been using them for years. Tire industry investigations have found that the caps lying along the road are almost entirely from non recapped tires or ones that have been under inflated and overheated. But, of course it's your choice.

As a young kid with a heavy foot and a hot rod 58 Pontiac.  I went to my favorite recapper every 2 week for 2 recaps.

Reason for every 2 weeks was that was payday then.

Never had any problems with them.

Bye the way it had air suspension just like HUGGY has.

The only issue I have with recaps id the age of the casing.
I'm not comfortable with any tire over 6 years old.

If you have a tire that is suspect because of cracking .go to the nearest Walmart and get the biggest jug of slime you can find and put in that tire .Guaranty it will get you 60 miles .Heck! it will be holding air two years from now !!!!

The only brand of recap I ever trusted was Bandag (on trucks). If they accept a casing for capping, then they will guarantee it. When I had dump trucks, all the rears were Bandag's. The best casings were Michelin's (back in the eighties), and some were recapped 3-5 times without failures. Of course, we ground all the rubber off within a year with the heavy loads we carried. It all depends on the quality of the recapper, the quality of the casing, and the price.

Sorry, what I meant was that I won't use up the tread in 6 years time. If the casings are already a few years old, I may have to buy 2 capped tires in the time frame a new tire would last.

Also tires that are used frequently resist aging better than tires that sit more than they are used. I've had older tires fail due to internal belting separation - I'm not the least bit interested in experiencing that on the coach.  ;)

As long as I have to work for a living, I won't be able to exercise the tires as often as I would like.  :'(

I now have 6 12R22.5 Michelin take offs due to age, approximately 60,000 miles, no damage, no cracks,  always garaged other than when in use.  Removed from my Dad's Prevost Liberty.  Two were steers, the others from the drive axle.
