Silverleaf and DDEC II not compatible?

I just talked to Art today about ordering a silverleaf interface for our 1992 8v92TA DDEC II coach. He suggested I ask on the forum if anyone is successfully using the silverleaf on a 1992 DDEC II system. He specifically wanted to know if anyone with this generation of DDEC was getting oil pressure, odometer, and fuel meter data. His first thought is that our coach will not be compatible with the Silverleaf system. This kind of ruined my day.

Scott, I have a 1990 6V92 DDEC II and the only thing that doesn't work that should is the odometer accumulation. It did for a while when I first got the Silverleaf interface. Someone else on the forum had this problem and is was rectified with the last version of DDEC II software. I believe it is 154, mine is 139. I haven't done this. Sean also had the same problem with his Neoplan. The oil pressure, fuel flow, speed, coolant temp, rpm, fuel consumed, running time, total time, boost pressure, cruise control features all work great. Doing this from memory.

I can make one work all except the odometer and fuel usage,if you can find a DD Pro/Driver they work but have a small screen,Ace has been on Martins case for years trying to make his work with the older DDEC version.

My 89 DDEC II works with Silverleaf, but needed the 154 software rev to do it.  Here's a good link:

You need to take the ECM out of the bus, open it up, and replace the PROM inside to upgrade.  I have the instructions around somewhere if you need it.  I think it was $99 at the dealer, there is one on ebay now for $55.  Part number is R6171618  - Steve

I do have revision 154 already. So I should be good? This is the latest revision for DDEC II correct?.

Has anybody had any luck with any vendors to do work on DDEC units?  I have bought several through our local DD dealer, but I'm SURE there is SOMEBODY out there that can work on them other then the dealer??

Most of the places I have found online look shady, when you google their phone number it is a cell, and when you check out their shipping address it is a house, or a "u ship" place.

If anybody has had good luck dealing with anybody I sure would like to know.

154 is the latest and last revision for DDEC II  - it's what you need to get Silverleaf working.  - Steve

Correct, Rev. 154 is the most recent and last.  My Silverleaf works great with the 6L71TA DDEC II (1990 vintage) that I have in my PD3751.  You will have to pick up the VSS from another source like a tone wheel. Mine is sensed by using a Roadranger transmission gear, and a homemade bracket driving off my Spicer trans in the Silverside.  As for the fuel data, that is pretty easy to rectify.  Tell Silverleaf you want the TM-295K Fuel Sensor Manager interface box.  This is wired into a pressure sensor that works off the weight of the fuel in the tank.  I have the Silverleaf VMS440 and have very accurate fuel management info, ie % of fuel remaining in gallons, and also number of gallons consumed, mpg, etc. Very easy to calibrate.  The TM-295K also will run an outside air temp probe and display on the Silverleaf.

Very good info here. Ok. I'll call art again tomorrow. I need this thing shipped ASAP. So I think there are only three wires in the diagnostic plug wiring that I need to tap into for the interface. I'll try to figure out which ones. So you guys with DDEC II are getting oil pressure too? If I don't care about odometer much do I even need to worry about VSS? Or does this affect the speedo too?

It worked on my 102C3 just fine with the DDEC II.  The Double Sight monitor is also just right for your dash.

Jack, I'd really like to get a tablet to use. Anyone have a recommendation?

The SilverLeaf is MS based ,depends on the manufacture of your DDEC if everything works if you have a early DDEC 11 all functions are not going to work

I use iPad and that doesn't work, so I have a PC on the end table behind the driver and cable to the Double sight.  Double sight picture on this thread.

Jack, When I send you my DDEC to get the power turned up this winter, If it needs the update for the Silverleaf is that something you can do? Because I would like to get a silverleaf for Christmas :D
