My cooling squirrel cage fan gearbox had been completely redone before I bought the bus but for whatever reason it is pouring oil out in just a couple of hours of driving. I'm in serious need of a shop that can R&R this for me somewhere in the Gatlinburg TN  or Gettysburg PA or somewhere in between areas. Can someone suggest a shop? I'm now on a tour so every weekend I have to be somewhere else and this is the only bummer I'm currently facing with our coach which has been otherwise perfect. Anyway I can temporarily stem the bleeding so I can get to a shop without seizing up my gearbox?

This will probably be out of the way for you, but you could give Davids Coach Service a try .12 miles south of Morganton N C on hiway 18. P/N 8288746105

Scott, how about choo choo in Chatanooga? Joel is currently inspecting our Eagle and replacing the air compressor and installing a drier which was missing.

It was amazing watching Joel remove the Air Compressor as you could tell he was an expert and had done it many many times before.

All th best.

Chop chop is in Chattanooga??! I was just there for a week. I guess I didn't know they were there. Boo. Ok. I might give them a ring. David's coach might be an idea on our way down to florida but I'm trying to get this done sooner than later. Can I use a thicker gear type
Lube to slow the bleeding temporarily?

Scott, I am not familiar with that gearbox at all, but the leak has to be a seal, gasket, crack, missing bolt or loose drain plug. Clean the area and check it with a strong light wherever you can. Injecting grease might buy you time, but that is a gamble. Knoxville is probably your closest service area, but you need someone who knows MCI's. It might be a simple fix if you can find the trouble spot.

If you can find a Gray Line shop they will work on it ? is blowing from the breather or leaking on 1 of the 3 shafts,I sure hope it's simple and doesn't need to come out what a pain to remove  `

Mine was leaking after i got it and i found the the bolts on top were loose.

Scott 1st you need to make sure that it hasn't been overfilled! Second like Clifford say's it's a major pain to R&R however if it was really redone just before you bought it, things could be somewhat easier.
We rebuilt one of ours shortly before we lost the engine to a turbo failure. And if memory serves me correctly we used screws or bolts to put the fan housings back on instead of all those pesky buck rivets that were in it originally!
So if someone put it back in w/bolts or screws R&R will be MUCH easier.
Also Premier Coach in Knoxville has a good shop and good people to work with!
Mike the general manager is a super great guy and very helpful!
Or I know a guy over in NC that used to be the shop foreman for Setra before they merged w/MCI and moved to Louisville that does great work! (but I also suggest David's Coach in NC as he keeps Huggy going for Ned Sanders!)

BTW if your interested I do have the unit we rebuilt still in the "parts bus" sitting here at the shop. How long are you in Gatlinburg?

Scott & Heather

Cliff, that's the thing, this box has less than 2,000 miles on it since the complete pull out and RR. New rubber bushings and everything. It didn't leak a drop not a single drop driving from Texas to Michigan. Now all the sudden it's spraying all over the compartment and engine. Seems like a fine mist. It doesn't leak a drop when sitting. Did I overfill it? I filled it till the sight glass was full and actually had a small amount of oil spill over out the fill tube before putting the plug cap back in. If I overfilled it could
That cause it to be emptying itself? I can't find the breather/vent. I'm trying to find that to see if it's plugged.

Scott been a LONG time since I fooled with one, but yes it sounds like you overfilled it. If I remember correctly the sight glass is pretty low on the case. In no way should it have been spilling out the top if you put it 1/2 to 3/4 way up in the sight glass! (btw it doesn't hold much)

B_K

BTW IIRC the breather vent should be right on top kinda a mushroom looking cap type thing.

DKO

It sounds like B_K may have you on the right track but if you need further assistance close by, East Tennessee Luxury Coach is near Vonore about an hour or so west of you. Jeff Rowe works mostly on Prevost but he is an excellent mechanic and an even better guy. I highly recommend him.

Looks like you need to siphon some oil out until the level is visible at the top of the sight glass.

Don't fill it more than 1/2 way up the glass. It will expand as it warms up and there's not much room for expansion. Sounds like it just expanded and pushed the excess out the top because it was over filled.
