This a camera on a truck but you could run into the same situation in a bus. If you had a front mounted camera from operationsaferoad.com in the windshield of your bus, you too could share your experiences of your road trips. You can also ensure you can prove you were in the correct lane if something goes horribly wrong.  But lets hope that nothing every does.

If that doesn't kill or injure you, it will give you cause to change your underwear.

My goodness, just about jumped out of my skin. Almost dropped the phone.
Some are called, some are sent, some just got up and went.

Was that you or the driver of the car when he looked up?

I think dropping the phone was the least of his worries.

You really should put the computer away when you're driving.

How did that camera survive?  Was the data streamed someplace else besides the camera body?  Why is the camera toast after the horrible impact but the video before the impact survives in very good shape?  I am not connecting the dots here.

The video is most likely digitally stored and even though the camera may be destroyed the data can still be extracted.

Most of these cameras now have a small SD card in them.  They can be had for less than $200 for a decent one.  They are capable of recording several hours of footage before looping back and recording over itself.  After an accident your camera may be destroyed, but the SD card generally does not get damaged such that they cannot be read.

However there are higher dollar cameras that you can hook up a DVR and mount it in your trunk (of a car) or in a secure spot in your bus, preferably away from any likely collision zones so it does not get damaged even in a major accident.  (For example, I wouldn't mount it on the front bumper.)

For double protection and more money you can set up a RAID system which consists of two independent disks that get written to at the same time and put one DVR in the front of the bus and one in the rear or something. Then if one DVR gets damaged, the other one will likely survive.  Or you can mount a DVR system inside a Black Box like an aircraft, but this is an extreme.

OperationSafeRoad.com has very nice commercial grade cameras that provide a clearer picture, record longer, and are a bit more rugged.  Call Steve Witt - President & Chief Technology Evangelist for more info at 888.918.8800.

Good questions to ask, although I don't think the fact that the recording survived is necessarily suspicious. One thing for sure, though, is that the vehicle with the camera is certainly not a truck as advertised - unless 'truck' in this case means a small car-sized pick-up.

I'm not saying that the video is in any way a fake - but there are certainly people out there who fake videos like this and post 'em on Youtube
