JIC type hydraulic fittings

Someone had posted awhile back how to cross reference the JIC type fittings. I know for example my hyd hose is a 1 1/4". What JIC  size do I need? On the surplus center web site they offer a list of fittings. They list JIC 8,10,& 12. Is there a list of JIC to hose dia.? The other part of the fitting example JIC 12M X SAE 12M I understand the SAE but what is the "M" stand for. 12 meters would be kinda  big. Any help in understanding would be appreciated. I'm at work on a 7 twelve hr day turn around trying to understand the meaning of something besides refueling outage.   Ray

Ray, 1 1/4 should be a 20  or 20 16ths. JIC comes in 37 and 45 degree, I think. The 12m may be metric at 12 milli meter. I have a catalog with fair prices, and I will look if you want. Let me know, Tom Y

Ray, I had to look. The book I have lists JIC as 37 degree flare and SAE as a 45 degree flare.  A 20 JIC would measure 1 5/8 - 12 threads per inch. Are you going male JIC with a female JIC swivel on your hose? What are you screwing it in to? Pipe or straight thread with an oring?  Tom

The "M" denotes a male fitting. If it has an "F" it denotes female.

Thanks everyone. What I have is a Allison automatic. The retarder has cooling lines attached and cut off. So I have the two fittings on the retarder. When removing the fitting an 1 1/4" pipe plug will screw into the retarder even though in reality it (the fitting) has a nut & a flat tin washer to accomidate a "O" ring. what I need now is two fittings for the oil cooler. Someone awhile back listed the size5= 1/4" 10 = 1/2" (just an example not the correct size given).
                         I'm also looking for 90 degree male.  Thanks ray

The numbers 4,6,8,10,... refer to for example 4/16 = 1/4" inside diameter of the hose. So #20 would be 20/16 which is 1 4/16 which is 11/4". JIC 37 degree sealing surface, are typicaly used in higher pressure hydraulic systems and SAE 45 degree sealing surface is used for air and some power stering systems usually up to 2500 psi.

Ray, I think what you need is a 20 ORB ( O- Ring Boss ) it measures 1 5/8 and 12 TPI.  You may want to try Discount Hyd. at 800-535-1302.  Tom Y
