I want to replace the old 1.25 inch radiator hose segments that join the radiators to the tank.  They are currently held on with plain hose clamps and have not been a problem (although a couple of the connections use two clamps.  Since the new hose is quite rigid, I was thinking of putting a little silicone on the inside to pre-seal against possible leakage.  Is that okay or should I just rely on the clamps
You don't have to believe everything you think.

Silicone on the inside, while sounding like a good idea, will make for removing the hose later a hard, most likely hose destroying event. Replace the hose with Gates green stripe and you'll be happy.

Says in the DD manual if the part you are applying the hose to is a cast part, put silicon sealer on it the night before. Spread lightly and let dry. Install hose over it then put on the clamps. Its because the cast parts can leak after rubbing the inside of the hose it says. I did it and never had an issue. Easy to change also.

I also recommend using the heavy duty truck hose clamps that require a 7/16 or 1/2 inch socket wrench to tighten up if you are not already using them.  They can be tightened up better than some of the thin cheap ones that some buses have on there now.
