I was wondering if anyone out there does citizens band (CB) radio anymore?
I don't very often but once & awhile when traveling to far ends its entertaining to get on higher or lower sideband freqs
To talk, sometimes skipping around the world like a ham...
We once talked to a trucker named "Bucket of Bolts" from Thunder Bay to Calgary
For almost a week, never met but sure bent each others ears.
I also still listen to albums, 45s, cassettes, & CDs but gave up the 8 tracks due to low audio quality!
I guess it goes with owning an antique bus &/or giving my antique truck to my older son
The younger one is deployed in the marines defending our right to live in the past...
Just sounding off - thanks . . .

Truck drivers still use them, and they can come in handy at times, but I think they have peaked out from their glory days. Cell phones have replaced some of their functions, and satellite radio has filled in for entertainment. I used to use them, but I got tired of all the trash talk that can occur. I just turn it on when there are weather issues, accidents, etc. Nowadays, you have to be concerned about anything that could be a distraction while you are driving, as it will be held against you if there is an accident.

Have one in my bus and it has come in handy several times over the years. Mostly on road conditions, wrecks and the Drunk Driver alerts from the truckers.

Not to mention someone ahead warning you about the smokey in the median :)

I have a chicken band in my Jeep i use when offroading and the bus has one in it i guess ill keep for traffic alerts. Other than that i have no use for one. Too much trash talk, noise and morons melting antennas and amplifiers. On the other hand, i am an avid ham operator and enjoy shortwave listening, so ill eventually put one or two in there as well. Out west here I don't really here anyone using CB accept along the interstate highways. Last time I turned mine on out east, all I got was cussing and trash talk. Turned it off and haven't  turned it on since. Used to be somewhat entertaining and when on the road at night you could have a decent conversation. Not anymore.
don't panic, just fix it before.... 1966 mc5, 1986 102a2

The waz app works quite well for smokey alerts, accidents, etc. Reports are by users. Shows locations on Google maps. Don't know how well it does it West where nobody lives or drives.

I still have a use mine. I wish drivers could agree to move from 19 to another channel just to get away from all the base operators that want to talk to their buddies, play music, ramble while drunk, etc.

Yes I still have one in my bus and still use it on the road. You need ear phones most of the time if your family is riding with you because of the language.Stopped putting them in my cars years ago mainly because there ain't no where to mount the darned thing!!

I have one in my bus and in my truck. I use it every time we roll since my wife is always driving the truck pulling a trailer.
Some are called, some are sent, some just got up and went.

I turn mine on every once in a while but never hear anyone talking.  I suspect mine doesn't work and will get it tested some day.
