Pull Engine With or Without Transmission?

Does it make sense to pull my B400R along with the DD S-40, or should I separate them and just pull engine? I have no known issues with the transmission, and it does not need to come out. I've never pulled a Tee drive engine, and I'm sure some of you have opinions on the process.

I believe I've located a crown pallet jack to facilitate the pull, but it will be at least a week before I can get it. Hope to get the bus blocked up this week so I can be ready.

On a lot of bus installs, and yours may be the same or different, you pretty much can't separate them in the bus. On my mci, for example, the totallity of the transmission mounting system is the bellhousing, there is nothing else. Tranny just hangs off the back of the engine. Clifford will know for sure!

Pull it as 1 unit it makes life so much easier for you, when you separate if the converter slips it could cost you a seal then you are back to square 1 JMO.you don't want to separate the 2 if all possible

LOL not much to see Scott it just hangs on the engine like Brian said,it so much easier to remove both trying to block up the transmission and removing the torque converter bolts through the little hole is a bitch

Art, my goal is Ocracoke in October. When we make it your way, we're coming to visit.

Once I can actually start this project, I don't think it will drag on forever. I intend to focus my time, energy and capital on getting Sophia rolling again. Not quite ready to pull the trigger, however. Still catching up work obligations.

One of the things I'm excited about is a chance to thoroughly detail the engine compartment. I love having to wear sunglasses when I open the hood.

Make damn sure you have that unit secure to the pallet before you start and load is fairly centered.You're working with a good bit of weight and if it starts tipping over,you're not going to stop it and smaller components, including yourself can be easily damaged.

I finally got around to reading the factory service manual—duh!—and it states plainly that the transmission must come out with the engine. I would have gotten there eventually, but now it's crystal clear.

I will be most careful when pulling. My dear wife would miss me so, and I'd hate to put her through that.

You misunderstood, we want a picture of your wife, not you under the engine.
Gives us, if possible a heads up of the engine removal.

I have 50 amps waiting for you. FWIW, the NC Seafood Festival is the weekend of Oct 1st and my parking space is within walking distance. Later in the month we could have a rally in Ocracoke.

I'm stuffed from a big birthday supper, and STILL my mouth is watering. No one loves seafood more that we do. Unfortunately, I'm doing revival meetings in Sparta that weekend. We plan to head toward blue water that Wednesday unless we backtrack to Palmetto Cove. A little gathering on Ocracoke in October sounds delightful.

Backtracking isn't usually a good thing --- Unless it is to Palmetto Cove ! ! ! ! !

Maybe you can spare a few hours this weekend. I have it on good authority that there will be several buses there AND there will even be a seminar on converting to a series 50 or 60 engine. Just a thought.
