445 HP sounds like the less desirable earlier 92 engines. They were painted green, but color doesn't tell much after all these years. Were known for cracking in main webs and broken cranks. Can tell by serial number.

These government 8V92's have 24v jake brakes in them to. Even if the engine is junk you can remove the jake's and sell them. I tried to buy some in Ohio for the jakes but they went for too much money.

In my 1980 Kenworth, I had the 365hp OO-92 that was painted charcoal gray with gold flames on it. The 365hp version was supposed to be a "Fuel Squeezer" at 1950rpm. Of course I wanted more power, and they took the shims out of the governor and opened it up to a full 435hp (9A90 injectors). Same fuel mileage, but more power.
When I needed suggested injector replacement at 300,000mi, I had Delaney and Ahlf in Bakersfield replace the 9A90's with 100 injectors. They put the truck on the chassis dyno and it was putting out 410hp to the ground-which translates into about 500hp. But except for the increase in power, I didn't change anything else (like the turbo), it smoked, was harder to start (they retarded the timing), and heated up faster. So after the 6 weed trip out I was on, I had them put the 9A90's back in. D&A charged me .85 cents for one O-ring. That's service! Good Luck, TomC
