Coolant "Eye"

Recently I had to change my fuel pump and that requirement led me to remove a coolant cross-over tube blocking the removal of the fuel pump. No problems draining and refilling the coolant, but the coolant "Eye" is hard to read and needs replacing. Do I use a socket wrench or can I use a 1/2" Impact Wrench on the gentle cycle to remove it. It's been in there for 30+ years. Don't want to trash the coolant tank.

Thanks!

speaking as one who has ripped mounting bosses out of brass tanks before, I wouldn't touch it with an impact wrench!  In fact, I wouldn't touch it at all, except with cleaners.  I might dump a half cup of CLR in the tank and let it sit for a while to clean the inside of the eye.

They usually come out fairly easy if they are brass,a impact I wouldn't use but I do heat the boss a little about 3 times letting it cool between heatings I do with with a propane torch

My 2 cents worth:  CLR.  Read directions first.  Flush very well.  I may do the same myself.

Before I pull the tank I would try the heat and loosen with finess. If it stiffens as it turn out, turn it back in a little. You'll need a new oring.
